trigger triton 44 sump

So I recently starting my 210 gallon tank. I bought a Trigger Triton 44 sump months ago while getting the equipment together. Now I noticed they have the new and improved version of course. So i was curious with people that have the orginal version how do you deal with not having and filter socks? Do you filter out bigger organics some other way? There is an acrylic wall with only a little slot in it so you cant even add a sock to with because you cant get into that section unless you plan on taking off the plumbing and top plate everything you want to change a sock in that section if you figure out a way to put a holder in there. So just wondered what people do about it. It was a concern of mine when I orginally bought the sump and now I kind of wish I went a different route so I had filter socks. I dont even know if there is a place to put some of that filter floss pad that some people use... any ideas?

The refugium acts as a filter for me. Filtersock is not necessary in my mind.

Following this thread. Also just bought the same sump for my 125 build and just put it under the tank. Had no idea they just came out with a new version. I bought it on black friday. However I think i might have to agree with roberthu526 on this and say that the refugium section should cover this fine. I would like to see some triton set ups and build for this one specifically though.

For those of you with Triton specific sumps. Im curious that since the water leaves the skimmer area under the next baffle, does this create surface scum build up in this area?

I have not experienced this issue. The water moves through the sump at a decent rate and with the water coming through the weir from the refugium section into the skimmer section it creates plenty of disturbance that no film develops. In fact, throughout the sump for me at least, I have not had any surface scum problems. I have the original Trigger Triton 44.

I wish I would have waited like 2 months for the new triton sump. The updated version 2 in my opinion is so much better with filter socks and just more room.

Hi All,
How are you using the media section? The provided foam filter block keeps coming out due to the pressure of water. I tried putting in some poly pads and same issue. Do you tie the foam filter block to the tray at the bottom of the media section? Wondering what people are doing?

I might be the minority here, but i like the original sump better. I like the fact there is a baffle in the drain section which slows down water in the refugium section that allows particles to slowly flow in the refugium for pods, algae...etc. I also i like in the return section, water moves fast enough to allow dosing with minimum precipitation. If i want to have any type of mechanical filtration, i add filter floss to my media reactor.
