I'm worried this is the beginnings of mouth rot, which I'm pretty unfamiliar with. Also not familiar with niger triggers as their teeth begin to come in, which is my only other thought - he's still young and doesn't have them yet, about 4."

I got him about 2 weeks ago from a pretty reputable lfs, and he came looking like this. Initially I wasn't worried, but after looking closer, I am a little concerned.

Sorry about the photo quality, he will not let me anywhere near him, especially with a phone.

Tank info:

Is the white spot by the Mouth what you are concerned with!

My female BT trigger came with this white fuzz looking fungus on her mouth. Good water quality and a nutritional diet cleared it up in about 3 weeks during qt.
It's the corners and the jagged-looking areas around the entire mouth. My previous trigger's mouth did not look like this.

This is not mouth rot but likely post injury from either sand, foid or creating a burrow within ricks which they often do
It should improve daily and not become infectious. If it does, treatment would be Maracyn 2 or seachem neoplex in a quarantine setting
Assure water quality is good

As long as it's eating, that wouldn't worry me much. I would just observe and feed well for now.
