hi, i currently am running a softy tank with the usual cuc urchins etc. i know that if i add a trigger, the cuc etc will be eaten. my question to those who keep these fish and preditor tanks is how do you keep your tank "clean" without the typical cuc?

I have two triggers. A niger and pink tail. I just replenish my snails and crabs every few months. In my experience, if you keep them fed well they don’t clean out your CUC crew as fast. I haven’t had them go after any urchins or cucumbers.

have a good clean up crew. There not always going to stay alive but always refreshing the ones that are needed helps a lot

Triggers in the genus Xanthicthys are planktivores and pretty darn safe.

Blue throat, cross hatch, sargasso.

A blue throat would be ok for a while. Most other triggers will be to big for a tank that size. Blue gets to be about 8in max. The other a foot or larger. They’re also messy eaters so you’ll have to make sure you have a good filtration system
