I need to trim back a large colony of Palythoa's growing on my rock work because they are blocking the light on the corals lower down. The rock is in there permanently so there is no way for me to take it out and I was wondering if it is safe to trim them back with a razor blade, or something similar. All the articles on paly toxins have me jumpy and I want to be sure I am not going to crash my 40G tank by thinning out the forest while its in the DT. Thanks for the input.

You have a pic of the palythoa? And how much you planning on removing? If you're worried about it, I wouldn't do it. Find a way to remove the rock from the tank, so you can remove the palys with proper precautions. Or just leave it alone or start over

If you can get access to the rock behind/below the palys, you can use fragging clippers/pliers or a chisel and cut/chip the rock underneath the paly

You know I was thinking about doing the same thing. My husband hates my palys and is always comparing them to crab grass. I asked him why he doesn't like them and he says they're evasive and doesn't like the color. Here they are

what do you guys think about them? I personally like the color but I want honest opinions of what everyone else thinks of them. I would like to remove over half of them to make room for more exciting colors. But I don't know if it's worth all the trouble.
