Hi... how have you guys been keeping the camera steady for topdown shots? is there some kind of boom extension i can attach to the tripod? trying to figure out a way to take a steady shot using my porthole cuz my hands apparently move too much :) or i guess i just need more practice. Any info would be appreciated.. thx :)

I shoot most top downs free hand. Tripod can work if you're trying to shoot something close to the panel you're in front of.

There are also clamp on tripods that would allow you to clamp to a canopy if you've got one. Not sure that I'd want to clamp to the tank itself, but I suppose it could be done if your glass is thick enough and you're brave.

I have a set of manfrotto 055 X Pro B legs. Very similar to the ones you're looking at -

I love those lateral tripods! I have one that you squeeze the trigger and the whole head will swivel and drop the camera to a lateral position. The draw back is that it will not reach very far like these lateral tripods will do.

Here they are: Oben Lateral

Make sure the maximum height will be enough for you.

i made something out of pvs, that is like a cap with a nut sunk into it, it screw onto tripod base, then i mad one with a bolt to screw to camera. then i can add pvc pieces to get the angle i want or shape and mount camer on it. works great
