Just got the results back from my 1st ICP test. Want to get some other peoples thoughts on it.

Concerns
Tin is high
Aluminum is high
Iron is zero.

I will meticulously check for any rust or metal in the tank tonight. Would there be anything else that could cause tin and aluminum to be high. They are high, but don't seem to be anywhere near as bad as some people post on here.

Iron however is another story. Currently dosing BRS 2 part with Red Sea colors once a week for trace elements. I only do half of the recommended dose and it looks like everything is okay but iron is zero. Is that even possible?

I did the test 7 days after I dosed red sea colors, and it had been three weeks since my last water change. Did a water change and dosed right after I took the sample.

Red Sea Reefer 450 (100 Gallon water volume)
Alk: 8.3 Hannah
Calcium 420 Red Sea
Mag: 1380 Salifert
Phosphate: .002 -.008 Hanna
Salinity 1.025
Marine Tropic Pro Salt

Tank was upgraded in May from a 2 year system.

Tin can come from new plumbing and aluminum is also somewhat common to see. Do you use any ceramics like marine pure or similar as those are a common source of aluminum. GFO can help bring down your aluminum levels and something like cuprisorb can help with the TIN. However, I never trust a single ICP result so would suggest you send another one in shorter interval to confirm the readings (while simultaneously taking steps to correct them although I don't think those levels are too dangerous).

As for FE. That is completely normal to see at zero and notice the set point is also zero. While in reality it might not be zero, it's just below measurable levels. I run full Triton (which already has elevated FE) and dose FE additionally and still get zero readings. I mostly dose a little extra FE if my Chaeto is getting pale but I never try to achieve measurable levels as that would be dangerous.

I do have Marine Pure balls in my Sump. That is very true about one test, I will send off another one next month. Thanks for the response.

I was not referring to FE though, I was referring to I. Which was my bad, its Iodine.

I got back my first Triton test also and it had low iodine, talking with reefers I trust and they said that they have never had a Triton test that didn’t come back with low iodine.

I also use BRS 2 part and use Ref Sea trace elements and my iron came back low also.
