Hi,
Hopefully this is the right place to post this - apologies if it isn't! I'm looking at a new tank to try a smallish SPS only tank (reefer 250) - the previous owner modified the sump and took the baffle out next to the return pipes and the filter sock/cup holder to run the triton method, something he had mixed success with - he reckoned it took less maintenance, but the corals didn't look as good as when he did regular WC's and took a more standard approach (if such a thing exists!). He chucked the parts in the trash so I can't put it back together with them unfortunately

I'm not a huge fan of running the Triton method as I see the value of doing weekly water changes and have had success with the red sea supplements (plus I know the guy who is selling it, he knows his stuff - works are one of the really good LFS's and if he's not sold on it I'm not convinced either!)

My question is this - could I almost run a semi-triton method and basically have the refugium area, area where the return pipes flow into and where the filter sock/cup used to be full of chaeto and pods to act as a filter bed with no socks/filter cups and then just do the weekly water changes and dose with the red sea supplements? Or am I asking for trouble?

I am investigating if Red Sea can supply the parts - the baffle and sock/cup holder to put it back the way it was, but am just wondering if this is an option if I can't

Thanks
