Hi,
I have a 75G tank with a 3 compartment Sump. Filter sock and skimmer in first compartment. Carbon and live rock in second and return pump in last. I have a few Zoas, Xenia, 2 large bubble tip anemones and some snails. 2 Clowns, 3 Damsels and a Lemon peel Angel. 1 Emerald crab and A few hermits. Lots of live rock and sand in the DT . The tank has been running for 9 months. I'm dosing Salifert 2 part and Magnesium. Tank looks fine and water is very clear. A few Algae outbreaks occasionally that come and go. I have only done 1 water change in 9 months. Corals and fish are growing well. My question is, should I go Triton or not? At the moment I am dosing 15ml of the Salifert all in one and Magnesium once per week. I would like more growth and corals but I m not sure which way to go. I m not a great fan of water changes. I have a grow light in the sump but the compartments are not that big to provide 10-20 % for the Triton method.

My local Aquarium shop runs Triton on all their tanks and they look great but they also run Filter socks and Bihome media.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hey man honestly I would stick with what works for you. I don't do waterchanges all I really do is run a denitrator, dose brs 2part, and flow/lighting. If you can focus on that you may have better success. Also lemon peels are not great in reef tanks as they tend to nip at coral...speaking from experience. Pretty fish just not suitable for a reef tank IMO . Hope this helps.

I talked to their founder at their first MACNA and saw his talk. I also got tested later out of curiosity. They are modern day snake oil salesman IMO. Their test results are often suspect, and the supplements are superfluous. It's been proven time and time again that you can achieve spectacular results without any additions other than the big three and feeding your fish. If you're not happy with where your tank is at, then you should look towards other potential issues or changes.

Thanks everyone for the kind replies. My goal is softies, Anemones and a few LPS. I like the idea of sending the water for testing but is it necessary? I mainly just test SG and Alk regularly. Everything else only if the tank starts to look off.

Lemon peel has been doing fine for a long time now, I will keep an eye out for him nibbling the coral.
