@Randy Holmes-Farley I read your article from 2015 discussing your triton results. I have my results attached here in this post. I understand from this analysis that I should address K. Could this be the reason I have been seeing RTN in my SPS and LPS?
Also I have high levels of Cr, Zn, and Cu. At the levels shown... might this be the reason I have had RTN issues?

Yes, the potassium is very low and should be corrected (if accurate).

I'm not sure the others are a problem, but might contribute. I've had higher copper without an issue. Any idea why it is high?

Any metal parts or tap water being used?

All the heavy metals may have come from a pond pump and brass fitting I used for the first few water changes.
OR
They may be due to dosing components A, B, and C from aquaforest. A few of the elements that are high are in component B. If this is the case then the metals are not an issue. I added these components as an attempt at fixing the RTN issues.

Yes, I have an external saltwater pump I am using with my water changing station now. I'm new to Saltwater so it hadn't occurred to me until I saw the fitting turn green. It was a rookie mistake, I was using my old freshwater equipment.
I'm doing the weekly water changes for 6 weeks to remedy this.

Is there any reason I couldn't space the water changes closer together?

Why did Triton say Chromium was dangerously high? The results say that, but then don't even state what happens when it is "dangerously high"

Their notations should just say high, not dangerous since they cannot know what form it takes (that determines the toxicity) and little information is actually available on what levels of most heavy metals are actually a problem in reef tanks.

That said, it may be a concern.

There's no reason to not accelerate water changes, but other products, such as a polyfilter or metasorb might speed the metal removal process substantially.

I can tell you that around Black Friday of last year BRS sold a whole bunch of HW Reefer that had QC problems specifically with Potassium and the salt only had half what it was suppose to. If you call BRS they will send you potassium suppliment to correct free of charge of course.

I'm curious if you got the salt during the Black Friday sale or if HW is still having QC issues.

Potassium free HW Reefer crew checking in :(

Black Friday sale. I'm pretty frustrated that BRS didn't step up and let everyone know there were issues with the HW sold around then. I will give them a call... Thank You for letting me know

My partner and I, and a handful of our friends had all been using it and loaded up on it at Black Friday. I was frankly shocked they didn't straight up replace the salt. *shrug* They did give us a little bottle of potassium though.

I just got off the phone with BRS. They said to call HW and HW will replace the salt for me. Hopefully that is what happens.

That is not what HW offered to do in my case. They will send you Potassium suppliment and that is it.

Dear Mr.

we are very sorry to hear that our product hw-Marinemix reefer has

given rise to cause of complaint.

As you were so friendly to give us your mailing address we have already arranged

the sending of 500 g KCl 99,9 % Ph. Eur., USP (in Ultra-pure Pharma quality).

We estimate that the parcel sending will arrive you within the next 14 days.

To adjust the potassium level in your aquarium water, we have allowed us

to include the following application guidance to elevate the potassium level.

The easiest and most comfortable way is an easy to prepare specified

Potassium chloride solution

This solution would be more easily and accurate to dose, than by trying

every time to weight out smallest quantities.

Preparing the solution:

Dissolve 190,6 g of the KCl 99,9% Ph. in 1000 mldistillated or R/O water.

The so prepared solution will contain then 100.000 mg potassium in dissolved

form.

If you dose 50 ml of the solution per 100-liter (26,42 US gallon) aquarium

water the potassium level will be elevated by 50 mg/liter.

Very important:

Please do not elevate the K-level not more than 25 mg/l per day!

Lowering the K-level can be done very quick and without any risk

of harm for corals and animals.

Increasing the K-level should be done slowly and in small concentration

steps to avoid excessive stress which could be very harmful to your aquarium

inhabitants.

Even if you know the actual K-level in your aquarium and you have calculated

how much of the K-solution should be add, please be extremely carefully to not

overdose!

A Potassium concentration below 100 mg/l will not cause any harm to your

animals and corals.

Exceeding the max. Potassium level of 420-430 mg/l involves a high risk of

mortality for corals and animals.

We beg your pardon for the caused inconvenience.

Since January 2017 a new analytic system has been implemented in the

quality control management. This reduces the possibility drastically that

a quality issues can underrun the monitoring system.

But even by this we must ask for your understanding that wherever human

beings are involved errors can occur.

With many tanks and kindest regards

@Randy Holmes-Farley I have had a difficult time raising my K level. I wonder what you think may be the cause?

I used reef grow Potassium ( http://www.reefgrow.com/products/supplements/potassium-pro/) per the instructions and I have not seen the expected results on the Redsea K test kit. The redsea ran out of titrant at .63 but that doesn't tell me anything since the redsea chart only goes to .5 ml of titrant use.

In two more water changes I will send off another triton test.

But in the meantime I thought I would ask... What is going on chemically in my tank that I could add 1,126 ml of K solution from reefgrow (over 7 days) and not see K even show up on the K test from Redsea without using more titrant than they even allow for on their charts.

My K levels were 232 with the triton test. By adding 1126 ml of the K solution from reef grow I expected to be plus 400 on K. I am hoping you can explain why I haven't seen that result.

Is K salt difficult to dissolve? It is an opaque container, so I can't be sure the crystals dissolved. But considering how much I added, I assumed I should be at least on the test card scale.

Nevermind @Randy Holmes-Farley . I contacted reef grow... It was a typo on the website. That amount of solution should have only added just over 10ppm
