All,

Have just restarted my aquarium and had somehow decided on full Triton. Mainly due to the "No Water change" Only problem is, that it is a rather big investment to go Triton in my case and then we have the whole availability issue in the US. Browsing around I then saw that ATI has come up with an Essentials Pro with 2 part dosing. The 3 part seems to be pretty well recieved, and there are a few good cases out there using the new 2 part PRO version.

I have 4 small kids, travel with work, so a simple system with a little maintenance is for me the way to go!

So... my question is, are there any other pros/ cons than listed underneath:

Triton:
  • Pros
    • Like the nutrition export with refugium. A good refugium will allow heavy feeding which will benefit both fish, critters and corals.
    • Simple, and well proven results
  • Cons
    • Somehow big investment for me to enter (new skimmer $ 500, sump $ 700 (need a customized sump due to stupid measures of the sump compartment in my RSM S-500 (29!! wide), DOS dosing $ 300, fudge light $ 100) $ 1600 USD
      • Avalibility
ATI Essentials PRO:
  • Pros
    • Cost to enter $ 500 for new skimmer.
    • 3 part dosing of essentials seems to generate great results.
  • Cons
    • Nutrition export ??? It seems like ATI is fully dependent on Skimmer. Means less feeding our introduction of further nutrition exsport such as bacteria, carbon dosing, ROWA, etc)
    • Avalilibility - ATI essential Pro should be avalilble in the US between 60-90 days from now. If not, I'll have to invest in one more doser.
If you have more to add to my pro/ con section let me know and I will add this. Help me decide :-D

Much salty love to everybody!

In my opinion you can go either way.
For refugium there are products available for healthy macro algae.
Like two little fishes Iron Concentrate, Kent Iron & Manganese, Brightwells ChaetoGro, etc.
By the way along with ATI Essencials Pro there is also a CNP product, basically an organic carbon and nitrate and phosphate dosing. Triton has already announce a similar dosing system to be introduced in the next months.
I do believe in both macro algae and carbon dosing system altogether, as long both can co-exist, I mean not "overdose" any. @Randy Holmes-Farley was doing both.

You can run a refugium with ATI essentials. I run mine in chamber 1 of my sump(just like triton suggests with their method). I rarely ever trim it; and with daily pellet/mysis feedings, my nitrates hover around 5.

Do you also have a skimmer along with your refugium?
