Found these at PetCo. Are these Maculatus sp. ? They are very white (though pick seems greenish/gray) and not the typical banded purple/maroon. They are big too.

these are a great size and inexpensive. definately not the typical ones I see for sale.
Ya from your description of the size, not a banded trochus. Definitely some type of trochus. If it does twice the work of a banded, due to it’s size, it will make for an excellent addition to your cuc.

It looks like my torch’s.. I’m not familiar with all the different species.. @ISpeakForTheSeas
Sticking around to see what @ISpeakForTheSeas has to say. Definitely has the trochus shaped shell.
Definitely from the Trochoidea superfamily. T. maculatus is a good guess; because of the ridges on the shell, though, I'm leaning toward it being Tectus fenestratus (some have very pronounced ridges, others have tiny ridges like this).

If you can get a straight-on, white light pic of the bottom of the shell with the snail hiding in the shell, I could probably tell for sure which though (the umbilicus is different between the two).

Either way, they should be good CUC.

Didn’t want to retract so I tried out of water and back on glass.

they actually had a lot. first time I've ever seen this species. all the locals have been out of CUC's for a while now.
There isn’t a Petco near me but I do have an awesome lfs. If we get an id perhaps they could order some for me.

Good pics, but the foot is covering the area I'd need to see - does the snail have a circular hole in the center of the shell, or not? (See the bottom-right shell pics in the links below for examples).

With hole (phaneromphalous umbilicus):
Without hole (anomphalous umbilicus):

leaning towards fenestratus too without seeing the bottom.
