Hye guys, when I first ever got Trochus Snails I thought I had found the best thing since sliced bread. They literally cleaned the entire tank in a matter of weeks. Since having a few die, etc. I finally went back to the LFS for a cleanup crew (even though I'm there every second day pretty much XD). Again I went with 5 baby turbos, and 3 trochus. One trochus has already taken to life in the tank and cleans as though hes on a salary. The other two however, have not moved more than 3cm outside there zones for 2 days now. I have checked at night as well, they arent really doing anything, I picked them up and they aren't dead, but certainly just as useful as dead snails.

Any experience?? What should I do?

Regards. GY

This I find helpful with snails

All I know is that if your magnesium gets to about 1500 - 1600

Then snails can go into an zombie mode.

Th

This is really informative! I never knew this. Is it more so certain species, or all snails?
Do you happen to know the science behind this?
Yeah,
When I used to dose magnesium to 2000 ppm (Tech M) / to kill off bryopsis, snails will come to a halt at about 1600 ppm.

Will check today! I think it should be 1350 ~ or so
Then, I'm clueless , but wanted to throw out the high mag and it's effects on snails :)

Snails can be very sensitive to water changes and need a very slow acclimation. Some may not get that at lfs and moving to another tank may further stress them. When mine stop moving in a few day they die and rot. Keep an eye on them if they arnt moving than they may need a sniff test.

The list is their favorite food not an all inclusive list.
