Tropic Eden on my 40 Breeder

I am thinking of going with this substrate as I've read it's probably the nicest and whitest sand you can find.

I can't decide what size to get for my 40 breeder...I don't like big pieces of crushed coral and I've never seen this in person.

Should I go with mini flakes, Snow or reef flakes.

i use fiji pink (its not pink its white with coraline flakes) and love it!
the mini flake seams same size not to big not to small.

Thats a personal choice, don't think one is really better than any others. If you like the sugar-sand size and look, use Snow, if you like a little bigger, Mini Flakes ..... and if you want something in the range of the size of oatmeal - Reef Flakes. All the Tropic Eden sand seems to be very consistent and none of those choices will give you big pieces of crushed coral. I have a dsb and like the look of sugar sand .... so I went with the Snow and then added a bit of the reef flakes on top.

Can you post a picture of your sand bed?

I've heard the sugar size is dense enough where it doesn't create sand storm in there...have you had this as an issue?

I think it depends on how much flow you will have as sugar size can really blow around

The sugar size did shift around a bit at first, but never really a sandstorm ...... just some interesting highs and lows and dips. If I change the flow up a bit it still does do some sand-scaping to some degree but havent had much of an issue with storms. As for flow, I have a decent amount - I have 4 mp40's that go to full power on reef crest and about 1800 gph through the returns.

I personally only use Tunze as I feel it's the most dependable ph out there (a loud boooo heard from all mp owners) size would depends on what corals you plan on keeping. I would go with a medium grade aragonite jmo which is not as easily moved as sugar size

We use both Reef Flakes and Mini Flakes. Personally, we like the Reef Flakes best, but did a mix of the two in the center area of our tank for our Leopard wrasses.

The Mini Flakes are approx half the size of Reef Flakes. We found this pic on the Premium Aquatics site to be helpful:

I think reef flakes will look too much like small pebbles right?
