Tropic Eden reeflake/mesoflake debate. Help me pick!

Glad this was discussed, not sure if I will add sand to the new tank. If I do the Tropic Eden Reefflakes is my primary choice. Now that I know about the Meso I'll look into a bag of each!

I wasn't aware of meso but looks good. I used 2 -3 bags of reef flakes and one mini. Love the reef flakes but there was one exposed area that will not hold sand. Just bought a bag of the larger select to see if that stays put. My melanurus did not seem to have a problem diving into the reef flakes.

Looks like the price of the meso went up. That's what I'll be going with.

Ordered 4 bags of meso yesterday.

I just bought 3 bags of Mesoflakes and 3 bags of Reefflakes for my new Rimless SC-150~

I went with straight miniflakes and really like it. Best part is it doesn't cloud the water. Sometimes I wish i would've went with ESV Ultra-white artificial sand. VERY white to reflect light back up into the corals.

I've got a mixture of the two. I used three bags total, two Reef Flakes and one Meso. I think the mixture looks good. I can try and get a pic if you're interested.

@bknapp - Love to see a pic! Having a really hard time finding the mesoflakes any of the top big companies have no stock. I can get the REEF MINI FLAKES but that it.
All of the Mesoflakes are all sold out. I got two bags and I need another 4 to complete my SC 150 build.

Getting ready to set up a new tank and I have chosen Tropic Eden Tonga Pink Mesoflakes but it's very tough to find at the moment, even @premiumaquatics, so please let me know when you get some in?

Anyhow, just for the heck of it, i ordered two bags of MiniReefflakes and what a huge difference between Meseflakes vs Mini. The rest of my tank I will be going with Mesoflakes for the substrate for my build. It's the perfect size since there is a lit of flow in my system.

Here is an example of the difference between Tonga Miniflakes vs Tonga Mesoflakes! Pix 1 is Mini and Pix 2 is Mesoflakes .

I’m stuck between meso and mini flakes. Does anyone think that meso is to big for a goby/pistol pair? I know the pistol does most of the moving, but want to keep them happy!

I have a yellow watchman, tiger pistol combo in a mix of meso and mini flakes. They've been in it over a year now and doing fine. I think they would be fine in either type

After reviewing the rwo in person, Im going with 8 bags of Meso and 3 bags of Mini Reefflakes for the new SCA 150 build which should give me about a nice 2-3'' layer..

Anyone know who is the tropic eden distributor?

Ive used miniflakes, reefflakes and now mesoflakes. I like the meso, as its big enough to not blow around with the flow cranked up, but still thin enough to let my wrasses dive into it. Premiumaquatics used to have a sampler pack for like $3 (I dont see it on the site now though) where you could get small (1oz or so) of all of the different grades of sand to compare them. Might be worth an email to see if they have them still. Anyhow, I found that the miniflakes blew around quite a bit, I dont have those issues with the mesoflakes so far - and I have the WAVs set at 60% on Mavericks. Here's some pictures of the grain size compared with the derasa that I have in there (about 2.5" across). I used 60lbs in my 525xL.
