Tropic Eden Sand; whats your take?!

With so little feedback out there on Tropic Eden Sand I felt compelled to share a little about my new purchase and ask you to share your experiences here. Sand is sand, right? Not the case once you have experienced the brighter more resilient white that Tropic Eden Sand provides over its competitors. After many, many different brands and types of sands I have found a winner, why might you ask. The sand is incredibly "clean" compared to many other brands I have purchased and the grain size is so uniform I was shocked. With so little feedback out there on this particular brand I was a little undecided when I placed my order but I wanted a small grain size that held didnt blow all over the tank. Now, I chose to use the Mini reef flakes and they are just that, mini. I will most likely add some standard reef flakes to achieve the six inch depth and add the weight im looking for in such a shallow tank as my 40 breeder. If you have been thinking about ordering this sand I wouldn't hesitate.

I have the reg size and have no regrets with it at all. It's really cheap too and stays white

+1! love the reef flakes. she thing for me, is super clean, consistent size, looks nice. even my friends who don't keep tanks comment on how nice the new sand is. (i replaced my old sand when i upgraded to the 120)

I used 60lb of TE Mini-Flake on my 75g. It was added to an established running system over about a week. By far the cleanest sand I have ever used. Stair out of the bag into the tank - didn't even cloud the water. I do like the Mini-Flake and do not regret it. It is more corse then my original Southdown sand bed. Something I had to get use to.

Like others have suggested, I will likely buy a bag of standard Reef-Flake to add to the mix for some voriety. Otherwise I do like it. It seems to be the sand of choose for SPS'ers, and people with lots of flow like MP40's.

Is the sand holding still for you in a seventy five gallon? My forty breeder is border line with the mini flakes but I would like to know what to expect when I upgrade.

Best sand I have ever seen. I used the regular and would use it again no matter the cost.

Yes, it's holding stable. But I'm not running a DSB.
My MP40 is placed left side about 4" from the top about about 2" from the side front wall. Running in Lagoon @ Max 75% I simply do not need full power yet.

I have some shifts in the sand bed, but I'd not call it blowing around. Just natural hills and valleys. Like most sands remember it can take about a month for your sand to "get heavy" with a bacteria coat. This will help keep it down more. I don't regret Mini-Flake at all. Like I said I used Southdown before. That was sugar-fine sand - that was all over the place! Many people like a 50/50 mix as well of Mini+Normal. And the Normal Reef Flake is bigger still. Guys I know with big tanks 200-400g and monster flow swear by Reef Flake!


Premium Aquatics has sample bags now of all the grades. You can get 2oz of each to see and feel for your self.

I would not see why you can't.
Just know that it's a different grain size more then likely. and TE sand tends to be white'ish vs badge or pink like other sands.

The Tropic Eden is so much better than all of the other sands out there that I don't know why anyone would buy anything but Tropic Eden. It truly is perfect in every way. Clean, consistent and beautiful.

I have a 29g that Im starting up. I have a 30lb bag of the Mini Flakes to go in there. But I'm also getting the "package" from tbsaltwater for it. Which will come with 10lbs of their gulf sand. I'm hoping the sand from them doesnt make my flakes look too bad. But I plan on having a goby/ shrimp pair, so Im sure they'll like the different types of sand. I was thinking of trying to keep the sand seperate (as much as possible, lol) like 2/3 of the flakes and 1/3 tbsaltwater sand. But I think that would look even worse then mixing it.
