Tropic Marin Regular Salt Mix

Does anyone have a picture of the label for the “Regular” Tropic Marin salt mix? I’ve looked on a couple of sites but see either a “pro reef”, “bio actif”, “classic” mix or something else but not a “regular” mix

I switched to the pro on my last order but going back to the regular octane on my next bucket.

Why are you going back? After watching the BRS videos I have been looking to switch from IO to TM salts.

I've noticed some dark sediment after mixing. I used the pro for many, many years and had terrific coral growth of any type but the current tank is mostly an anemone tank, switched to Salinity for many years, back to the good old standard Tropic Marin with beautiful clean clear mixing and the Pro does clear after ~15 minutes but I just feel better with the original blend.

Wow, that was a quick change. To me anyway. I got my last bucket a bit over a month ago and it was still the 'oldy'. lol

Glad you put this up or I would have been confused in a couple of weeks from now when I order. Thanks.

@Captain Quint im sure the store have the several of the old stock still in the warehouse to ship out before the switch over. What are the levels of the salt when freshly mixed? The only reason I'm looking to switch is that regular IO are all over the place lately. When my 400 is ready for water in the next month I will need to buy salt and I'm hoping to get something that matches the levels I'm running now. My 240 gallon Reef and my he 400 gallon predator thank will be sharing a common 125 gallon sump which is why I ask.

Actually, it might be easier to just present my findings from my notes on the both...nerdy, I know but I do keep track.

Both hold properties close to the description given by Tropic Marin with my findings being;

The values are based on my measured salinity of 35 PSU and had to use right at two cups and a quarter per 5 gallons mixed with my RODI fresh at the same temp as my DT.

Classic was right at Ca: 380 ppm, Mg: 1250 ppm, Alk: 9 dKH
The Pro reef was right at Ca: 440 to 450 ppm, Mg:1350 ppm, Alk:8 dKH

The pro mixed with a pH of ~8.3 after a day to bounce to true while the classic bounced the day after mixing to a pH of 8

The classic mixes faster (which I understand) and completely clear whereas the pro took longer and appeared somewhat cloudy with some dark residue around the rim of mixing container and a little in the bottom which I did not like and was cloudy in the DT for up to an hour before clearing.

Other than mentioned I noticed no significant differences.

Hope this helped. This was just IME but I know 12 to 15 years back when the pro was called premium it seemed to mix better and my coral did really well. Kind of makes me wonder ???????

So...I am switching back to the regular classic.

EDIT: had to correct measurement from gallon to per 5-gallon mix...ARGH. Sorry 'bout that

No problem. I'm a classic user myself for over a year. Like Captain says, mixes clear. It is consistant batch to batch, or I haven't got a bad bucket yet.

The classic has pretty close to the numbers I like. Personally my tank seems to be happy with just a tad more CA and a good amount more of Mg. The last 2 months I've been running at 400 Ca, 9.2 DKH, 1380 Mg, 0.02 PO4, & 5 NO3. I was running everything much higher the last few years and I have to say my tank has not looked this good in years. I'm just tired of such inconsistencies with IO the last year ish.

The following pics are what I referred to regarding the Tropic Marin Pro.

The water shown in the Brute has been mixing since 5 AM and the picture of the tank is that of a WC not done in 8 days. I will clean it, remove 20g and add the newly made water but it will be cloudy for up to 30 minutes after I do the WC.

The T.M. Classic is always clear after the mix. argh.

This will be my last WC using the pro. I'm going back to classic.

If that is foam precipitates just under the water line in the brute can then yuck. I remembered battlecorals stated in a thread on here long ago that he has used classic for years. That stuck in my head and was glad I tried it. Mine comes UPS though, I don't have a vendor near my area.
