Ok so when I win the Aquaforest giveaway this will be irrelevant, but I'm looking at making a change since recent precip activities have come to light. Tell me which salt you use and what you like/dislike about it. If you've used both of these, even better, as you can tell me your comparison.

Appreciate your input as always

Happy Reefing!

Tropic marin pro. Mixes super fast and crystal clear. “Perfect” numbers right out of the bucket. It’s great stuff. You don’t hear of many people switching from tropic marin once they try it.

Both are outstanding salts, can't go wrong with either. I've been using Tropic Marin Classic for over a year now and I'm very happy with it. Mixes quickly and clean, tests consistently for calcium, magnesium and alkalinity.

I’m not a fan of tropic marine pro. Mixes ALK to 7, which is just too low for me. Maybe if you’re running a ULNS it would be okay. Just seems backwards to buy a salt mix only to have add buffer to reach a decent ALK level. For me, I’m looking for a salt that mixes to my desired reef tank parameters. I’ve experimented with multiple brands and right now I’m using Red Sea blue bucket. Mixes between 7.8-8.2 ALK which is right around where I want it to be. I’m thinking about trying Fritz next though.. My best advice is to find one that mixes closest to the parameters you want and go from there.

My tropic marin pro always mixes out to exactly 8.6, that’s strange you had different results.

I'm giving Tropic Marin a go too, but I went with the Bio Actif... Still debating whether that was the right call instead of the Pro. *shrug*

I’ve been using AquaForest Probiotic salt for a year now and I’ll probably stick with forever. Mixes clear in min comes with icp test has probiotic bacteria that I use reduces no4 pretty purple bucket lots of matching stuff to add to your tank. Alk always test out at 8.2 for me. I really like it.

In general, you should see Tropic Marin Pro-Reef salt, when mixed to 1.0264, test out at about 7-8 dKH, within a small margin of error. You may want to keep your reef system at whatever alkalinity you feel would be best for you. But remember that natural sea water conditions on reefs, is about 6.5 dKH worldwide.
