Hey All,

I have been pretty frustrated lately and just want to put this out there to see if anyone had any helpful insight. In the last couple months I went from thinking I had Dinos to realizing it was chrysophytes and beating chrysophytes with Vibrant. Initially when I thought I had Dino of course I started trying to bring up nutrients. My problem is I got the nutrients up then figured out it was chrysophytes and I can’t get them back down. The main reason for this is my skimmer has been over flowing with white foam for around six weeks or more. I have continued my water with my weekly water changes but it’s just not enough. At this point it could be anything causing my skimmer to do this because I have dosed vibrant, dosed chemiclean, had brand new filter socks, and switched to trying a filter cup with poly-fil which is what I am using now.

I wouldn’t be super bothered with the high nutrients but I am seeing green algae, cyano, and even a few pieces of bubble algae.

Any help is greatly appreciated !

I'd start doing larger water changes to get the levels in check or to a more manageable level. During said water changes I'd syphon off the Cyano and I went along. Vibrant should be handling the green algae along with whatever clean up crew you've got in there. What's int eh tank for a clean up crew?

Also, brand new filter socks ALWAYS make my skimmer go nuts. I have to soak new socks in RODI before using them.

Get some carbon on there to soak up whatever is in the water that is making your skimmer overflow. Get it running again. Next, stop dosing stuff, you are only putting off the natural stuff that needs to happen like growing bacteria.

did you try a like 50% water change and activated carbon?

I soaked all of my filter socks before using and the over filling still happened. That’s why I am trying cups and poly-fill now.
