Does anyone else have trouble keeping Firefish? When I started I bought just one and lost it a week after but the other fish were fine. About 2 months ago Went to the LFS and they were on sale, so I figured id try it again and purchased 2. Shortly after one died but the other was fine about 2 weeks ago the other died. Are they just weak fish in general? I check my levels biweekly and everything was always ok. The last one to die did end up with Ich but the day before i was going to set up my QT it went away. The Ich did come back again n spread to my Royal Grama and Clown but after 2 days it all went away again. I did notice that the firefish was missing half its tail but i never did see anyone bother it. Right before it died it had regrown most of it. They are really pretty fish I would like to someday have some again but not if im just condemning them to their inevitable demise.

Usually your fish must be stressed or in some other weakened state to be susceptible to ich. New fish are obviously stressed from being new and all the moving, but what about your other fish? Did they get strressed with the addition of the new fish due to lots of tanks disturbances?

At one time I want to have a harem of Fire Fish, it was a harder feat that I thought it would be. It was my experience that Fire Fish transport very poorly, they also can have a difficult time acclimating leaving them vulnerable. To increase my chances of making it happen I ordered 5 young Fire Fish from a vendor, when they arrived I requested that the fish be left in the shipping containers, I would pick them up once they arrived. Three made it through transport and acclimation and did very well for a long time. Being a passive fish they should be among the first fishes added to a system, if that is not possible add them at night with the light off. You might need to offer feeding more frequently initially so ensure they are getting enough to eat.

They all seemed great till they disappear. They caught ich twice but it went away without medicating. Wont be trying again. Not till I get that HUGE tank ive been dreaming about.
