Trouble with Frags staying in place

Hi Folks,

I am trying to keep my frags in place. I am using Gorilla Glue Gel which according to my reading is appropriate for gluing in the tank, the issue is, the glue sort of takes for a few days or couple of weeks then eventually it falls over because of random flow. I've tried to move my flow generation around but it just inevitably happens from time to time.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Is that an acrylamide glue?

Loc-Tite Gel control is IMO the strongest glue for this although you'll find lots of reef specific glues for sale. Ive been using the loc-tite gel for years. Also works for glueing or touching things up while submersed although the water could freeze up the nozzle. Only negative thing about that glue is theres usually more left in it when it seems empty, if you take apart the plastic housing theres usually a decent amount of glue left in the tube.

I use gorilla glue gel with no issues on small frags.
For larger frags I use reef putty, the one that comes in a stick. The combo of glue and putty has worked well.

Gorilla glue usually works for me. I was trying to embed a funny reference to Scrooged and staples, but failed miserably.

Hey just to confirm with everyone you’re using “Gorilla Super Glue Gel” right? That’s the CA glue.

@slaag I do a combo of glue on the frag that attaches to a pea sized piece of epoxy and then another dab of glue on the epoxy. Then you place the frags where you want. The superglue helps hold things on while the epoxy forms to the rock and cures. FWIW I use Bob Smith IC gel superglue in small tubes.

Make sure you squish the frag plugs in place on your rocks and twist them around a bit. Superglue gets a skin on it underwater and you need to make sure to break the skin to get actual glue on both the rock and frag plug.

Something wrong there IMM, use this glue for everything.
Would stick a plug in minutes ok for light flies, should be solid in say 2 hours.
Is this what you use?
Water parmeters?

I make a glue sandwich. Use the gel superglue on the bottom of the frag, then put on a gob of some type of reef putty, then more superglue. Squish the whole thing onto the rock. The superglue holds it short term and the putty holds it long term.

Super glue gel + epoxy is the trick. The best epoxy is Tunze Coral Gum. It doesn't make your skimmer go crazy like other epoxies. Plus it stays pliable if you ever have to cut it out.

Okay, Great. Thanks for the tips. There is green algae on the rocks so that might play a part as well with the glue only issue. I have some putty so will give that a go with glue as recipe'd above. Appreciate the ideas!

I have no luck with glue. . . . almost 20 yrs of using this putty:

Aquastik has been my preferred variant over the years*. Seems to hold well and doesn't make too much mess.

I like the glue grenades from Polyp lab. The gluelets are the perfect size for a few frags.

I love the putty + glue sandwich idea, got some frags to try it on this weekend! Only used putty or glue separately, had better luck with glue alone, but the combo sounds great.

For the rocks and algea, give them a little toothbrush scrub where you are putting the frag.
