trouble with in line TDS

I have a TRM-1 triple in line tds meter. I replaced all of the cartridges in my RO/DI system (not the membrane) when the meter read 6 for the final product. (It had always read zero before). Now it is reading at or above the water that leaves the membrane. I used the bulk reefs supply resin and packed it myself. Any thoughts? I have ordered a hand held tds meter to double check. Thank you for your thoughts.
 
Was it fresh resin that had been sealed in a vacuum sealed bag and stored in a cool dark place like the refrigerator?
Try switching the probes around to see if they agree or are close to each other, also make sure the probes are inserted all the way and rotated to the correct orientation.
 
In line meters are unreliable. Has to be a digital calibration unit whether it be a hand held or inline. Have to calibrate a hand held first. Measure your incoming water supply and then use that figure to calibrate the in line. That's why i prefer to just use the hand held.
 
Inline meters cannot be calibrated. They are also not truly temperature compensated like a good $25 handheld is. I have two HM dual inlines and let the batteies die in both, they simply lack the accuracy of an ATC handheld. I will never buy another one.
 
The standard inline meters can be taken apart to gain access to the probe. Charles showed me how to do it.
 
Doesn't matter if you can gain access, they still don't have a temperature probe in the water which is what you need for accuracy. They have an external probe in the fat part of the probe exposed to air which is rarely if ever the same as water temperature.
 
Interesting. I've calibrated mine along with my handheld and the inline probes matched with 0 tds and the calibration solution on several tests. not sure what temp I was working in though. I'll have to ask Charles the next time I'm there.

Yes those are the calibration instructions for the handhelds, notice the inlines are not mentioned. Ask Charles to show you an inline probe that has been cut apart, you will see the temp probe inside the little window exposed to air.
 
sorry for the delay. The resin was fresh, was vacuum sealed. was stored in an air-conditioned room - temp low 70's. I tested the water with a handheld before my two di resin canisters, between them and after, and the inline is accurate. My tds is not changed by my di resin canisters. Maybe I packed the resin incorrectly? I have fresh. Can you give me instructions on how to refill the canisters correctly?
 
Fill the cartridge to the top. Tap it several times on the counter or table to pack it tightly then add more resin to top it up and repeat. Leave just enough space at the top so the foam ring fits compressed tightly. Resin shrinks or consolidates slightly with use so you want to eliminate voids or gaps from settlement.
Once you install the new cartridge send the first half gallon to the drain to rinse up the resin before using the water. You can check the progress with your TDS meter.

If you have resin left over, a seal a meal type vacuum sealer does a good job of sealing to keep it fresh. I store it in the back of the refrigerator.
