Trouble with SPS (HELP)

I had similar struggles until I add T5’s. I now run a hybrid T5 and LED fixture. I also had to wait for about a year before having any success as I started with dry rock. How often are you checking your alkalinity? I also got my tank s little “dirty” by turning off my protein skimmer for about a week.

I check alkalinity at least every other day. When I have SPS in the tank I do every day.

If they are fading away you might not have enough light

So I should try and blast them with light? Maybe that’s why the last 1” of a cap has stopped deteriorating? I cranked the lights back up. That sure would be silly if that fixed my problem. I’ll go grab another piece of cap today and see what happens.

I mean without seeing it and only knowing what happens in my tank that’s what I would think of if your corals are slowly just losing color until they die
If they are Dieing from the bottom up or any other way I would change my thought but with having a 90 gallon myself and knowing how much light I have on it compared to you (I also don’t know a lot about your light but it seems like it’s not enough) I would start there or pest if you do get a new coral inspect it closely

I definitely haven’t seen pests. I have access to a par meter (local club) and get around 200 PAR at the bottom when my lights are 100/10 and probably closer to 120 when my lights are 30/1. Brian (Lazy’s Coral House) has had great success with the Ocean Revive lights as well as the guy I’ve gotten the frags from (but he does have T5 supplements).

A member here by the name of Anthony just switched out his MH to ORs and they’re 12” from his water line, running 80/20 and he’s getting like 400+ par at the upper third of his tank. They’re actually pretty strong.

Yup they’re definitely a killer budget option if you don’t care for ramping features. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again, even with the issues I am currently having!

I used to run them before my current reefbreeders. One of them even got completely doused with salt water from my sump, a pump shot water upwards and into the unit. I thought it was toast. The whole unit flooded internally. I just laid it on its end outdoors for a few hours, and now I’m using it STILL to light my fuge.
