Troubles with Diatoms (I think)

I hear ya. But way to many people out there can attest to the fact that it does in fact work, with no ill effects on the tank system and its inhabitants.

hey! i've had this issue before. its a bacteria bloom. just like cyano, which is also a bacteria. its all in the water thats used for water changes, unfortunately i have no clue how to test for these bacteria. the way i solved the issue, was to treat it the same as cyano, because its a similar bacteria. siphon the rock, pull all carbon, switch the skimmer off, pull out any other media & dose red slime remover, let it do its magic. i would also leave the atinics only. if you feed frozen, it also helps to strain the frozen. i have been told that the water used to freeze the food, is high in PO4 & NO3, because of the amount of waste the live food lives in, plus the death of them when frozen. good luck & happy reefing.
