Troubleshoot RO/DI - BRS 4 Stage

We have a BRS 4 stage Value Plus RO/DI System. The system is about 1.5 years old and we replaced the sediment, carbon, and DI resin 3 months ago.

I've noticed over the last week that the pressure gauge is reading only 5psi. Typically, we run ~85psi. The system has also been making a plumbing hum/squeal from time to time even when the system should be full/off -- as if a valve is leaking.

To troubleshoot so far:

1. Verified flow through the sediment and carbon filters - 100%.
2. Disconnected input to auto-shutoff valve, plugged with finger, and pressure was 85psi.

I *think* this means our auto shutoff valve is bad. What say you experts?

Are you sure you don't have the flush valve on top of the RO unit open?

Yes. I use that for about 2-3 minutes each time we start a larger batch of RO/DI. Have you seen an auto shutoff fail? Or would the membrane puncture and prevent pressure build up?

I have seen them fail but I'm not sure it would cause what you are seeing. If it is open, then pressure should build normally. If you block it with your finger and pressure builds, that acts like it was closed.

I may just not understand how you are testing that, though.

I appreciate your continued thoughts and help to troubleshoot... In normal / open position, we should be making water and there should be pressure indicated on the gauge (~85psi is typical). Currently, when the system is calling for water, the pressure is only 5psi. If I disconnect prior to the auto shut off and block the hose, the pressure goes to 85psi. Is it the membrane the provides back pressure during normal water production?

Yup, the membrane should provide the back pressure.

Do you have the shut off valve before or after the RODI system?
