Hey gang. i previously posted i have trouble locking down on temp in my tank due to testing with with multiple instruments apex, Icecap hand held, glass thermometers etc
I was suggested a calibration thermometer for another $75. this is where i came across this review on bulkreef

My tank has been 1.3 deg cooler than I thought. Not a big deal but now I can calibrate more accurately. I did the restaurant test. Fill a glass with crushed ice, add water, wait 90 seconds and put thermometer sensing tip in middle of ice in glass and it will be 32 deg. I did this with this model and it leveled out at 32.0 deg. I am very happy with this purchase. Calibrated both Apex probes and all is well. My 250G DT varies .3 deg.(3 tenths) in 24hr period.

If i only want to calibrate my apex from time to time. How reliable this test and if you ever tried it.
Thank you for input

I had to have certifications from our states health dept for my job and Ice water is how we where trained to calibrate all our thermometers.. It's still how I check/calibrate my most accurate thermometer which I use to spot check my other devices that monitor temps.

Yep! I do commercial refrigeration this is how we calibrate thermometers and also check the resistance on thermistors to make sure they are reading properly, with this being said i love having a nice Cooper-Atkins i used at work. Thing is always spot on.

Yep this how I was taught to do it back when I worked in restaurants.

You guys are awesome. Thank you.
