What is your take on true union ball valves versus just one from the local hardware store?

I think they are a great idea but be smart with them. No more then one or two at most, plumbed into your Return/right before return line/overflow they are so easy to fine tune and saves you if you ever need to replumb. Unions are also a but saver.

Worth every penny, the crappy ones from the hardware store get extremely hard to turn over time. These true-union values are easy to turn on day 1 as they are on day 1000. Not to mention, I can easily take apart plumbing if need to by just unscrewing it.

Lowes sells true union ball valves like this and they are way cheaper. I use them or gate valves. Buying plumbing supplies on line is a joke and takes away from local business. My uncle is a plumber and I get my stuff from him.

The ones from the local stores I have a hard time fine tuning - they don't turn very easily and you have to really turn hard to overcome their "stickiness". The ones like you pictured above I have no problem fine tuning the flow and they turn much easier with considerably less effort - well worth the $15 - $20 vs the $3 - $4 from local hardware store

I have one of these on my rodi storage and they are definitely better than the reg ball valves at hd BUT having to run all schedule 80 to plum everything else on dt is not worth the $$$.

I've purchased all of mine from our local Lowes, they are made in China and quality is a little on the cheap side but if you'll pick through 'em,you can find some that turn much easier than others, some are very difficult to turn too though LOL
