Just brought this tank in and it has a sliver of glass broke. What do yall think, should I worry about it or forget about it? The tank is a 180 6x2x2. Haven't leak checked it yet.

Tough call. All about probability. It's a pretty substantial chip. The break source was under the frame on the bottom of the tank.

If it was me I would leak test it outside that way if it did bust it is outside and not in the house and you do not have 180 gal. Of water to clean up

If you saw the chips on my 125 you'd be surprised the tank holds water. I really don't know why I used it now. But I did, & it works for over a year now.

Did it chip in the move ??

I wouldn't use it looks like a good chip and its at the bottom so if it lets loose u got 180 gal of saltwater on ur floor ..... What kind ok tank is it can u have that panel replaced???

Same here. My 125 has a massive chip in the corner and it has held for a couple years now. Test it outside and let it sit full for a week or two.

I'm guessing you aren't thrilled with the idea of having to move a glass 180 at least two more times for a leak test. Maybe you can fill 1/4 of the way and get some water leak alarms from home depot to test it inside. I had the same concerns with some of the seals on my 240 and leak tested inside since I didn't want to hire a moving crew just to test it. Granted you won't get the total water volume pressure, but might at least tell you if you have anything major.

also while testing put a power head and make waves to put stress on the seam to see if it will hold...

Justin this is my old tank. The only reason I sold it was to down size. I would fill it up just a few inches past the chip and let it sit for a day or two. After that I would add water to it every day until its full. Of course check the chip each time after you add water to make sure it doesn't get worse. I hope this helps. That is a great tank, stand and canopy I designed it myself. I gave Amanda the power cords for the Tunze pumps I only used them about 6 month they should be in great shape.

Rhett, was that chip in it before?

My biggest concern is where the chip is... there is a lot more pressure on the glass at the bottom than at the top.

When I sold it I'm sure the chip wasn't there. I don't know when the chip happened. Without me actually seeing it I'm scared to give anymore advice.

Think of it as a window. Chips lead to cracks, crack lead to broken glass, broken glass leads to a room full of water. It's a major week point and at the bottom of the tank on top of all that. It deff sucks to have to replace the tank. It would drive me crazy thinking all day while I was gone that I could possibly come home to not only water EVERYWHERE but all of the poor livestock on my floor and dead. Not sure if your married but you have to throw that aspect into it as well. My wife would flip if that happened!

Only if chip extends through glass, outside to inside. This is just a chip of glass on the outside. I would water test it full up for a few weeks, if it holds use it.

I'd use it but my tanks are in the basement and 180 gallons of water on the floor is a two or three times a years occurrence, LOL!

If it was at the top I would say go for it. But at the.bottom you have all the weight of the water. And with current and sand weight. I'd be scared of it letting loose. It would explode. And as for only going an inch or 2 above really wouldn't help as there's no pressure. I remember reading somewhere and I could be wrong but its the last 4-5" of water that adds the most pressure to the base seams. I think I read that when someone was thinking about removing a brace.
