Recently purchased a new 66g cube tank and I noticed that the overflow is made of 2 parts, glass wrapped with acrylic. There's about a 1/4" gap between em and cuts at the bottom of the acrylic. Not sure if this is designed to be some sort of plenum. To me it looks like an area for detritus to settle and become a nitrate factory. So I'm thinking I might seal it up all together but wanted to get some opinions before I do.

Does the glass overflow sit lower than the acrylic if so the slots in the bottom will act like a syphon and suck detritus of the bottom of the tank. Bit hard to see from photos

Can we get more pictures. I am having trouble understanding what I am looking at. Maybe one of the entire thing front back and sides.

Then it works the same way as the top teeth as the water level reaches the top of the glass it will create a syphon from the bottom whilst water still flows through the top. This system works good for keeping sand beds clean

OK interesting. So in theory it shouldn't let detritus settle?
