Trying to ID this

welcome, don! welcome!

i dunno but my eyes see a mass collection of flatworms on top of the coralline algae.

that or some kind of odd brown algae (not Padina but something along those lines).

don, are we looking at algae growth or moving critters??

Just an update to this thread. They indeed were hundreds of flat worms. I siphoned out as many I could reach and then went out and bought a 6 line wrasse who is currently picking away at whatever is left. Thank you all for your help!

Welcome!
Glad you got that figured out. Guessing you're gonna have a seriously fat wrasse :)

lol! so i wasn't as cross-eyed as i thought! :D

glad to hear that the wrasse is earning his keep! i have pesky red flatworms in my tank too ... already have a spotted mandarin, but i don't think mine's taken a liking to the flatworms. i may try my luck with one more spotted mandarin.

i have black leopard wrasses in quarantine; i hope they target the red flatworms better once i can introduce them into my main 180G. (i'm not looking to add a six-line or eight-line wrasses to my menagerie).

I will admit that it took a couple of days for the wrasse to "find" the flatworms but since then it's been feasting.
