Hello. I’m trying to get a brand new Reef Octopus Regal 150 set up. I have the pump on the lowest setting and the gate valve turned all the way counter clockwise. It’s sitting in 8” of water while the return pump is running. It just keeps spewing out bubbles and nothing I do will stop it. I removed the collection cup and have let it run like this for about 5 hours now. Any suggestions on what I need to do to makes this work properly?

It's still pretty young, I would do what Adrift says, run it for a few days and see if it tempers down. If it still runs like that in a few days or is showing no sign of progress you might have to lift it up a few inches with a stand of some kind. The good news is you're already getting that nice "sud" foam. Break in period on skimmer is probably one of the major gripes I have with them! WHY CAN NOBODY FIX THIS. lol. Good luck.

Yes. I had to blanket stuff around it though got salt spray everywhere. After about 2-3 days of not having the top on I put it back and ran the drain to a bucket. It settle out, but left it that way to monitor for a couple of weeks. During those weeks I felt comfortable and took off the drain. The OCTo and Nyos are just powerful skimmers

Put something under it to raise it 2 inches and then wait. It may do this for days.
All I put under mine are sections of PVC pipe of the diameter I want to lift the skimmer. It doesnt have to be a fancy stand.

Of course, skimmer is rinsed out in water and vinegar and then put in sump?

Agree with the others on raising it. I had to raise my 150 classic after the break in period then that thing worked like a charm for years! I used an old CD-ROM spindle holder. Now a days they sell actual skimmer raisers.

No, I just rinsed it off with tap water and let it dry for a few days
Did not think about using any vinegar

The website said 6”-8” of water. Does that mean 6”-8” while the return pump is running or 6”-8” in the sump with all pumps off? Sorry for the stupid questions, this is all new to me. Thanks for all the help

I have habbit that every piece of new equipment i wash in water+vinegar, just put in bucket, let it run few hours, and rinse with tap water, then i put it in tank....

It helps remove residue from manufacturing, and, maybe its not related to your problem at all, but it cannot hurt.

6-8" sump water level, meaning, while everything running.....

I had diablo ro skimmer, and if i remember, its better to stay on low side, 6", rather than 8.....

Now i have powerflotor, and recommended height is 16 to 20cm, i had much various problems, i set it to 14cm......and working great ever since.....

6-8 to with returns are running. Your skimmer should be set to turn off when returns are off. Otherwise it may overflow.
