TTM and Seachem ammonia alert badges.

Do people just buy 4 alert badges for each TTM or is there a way to "sanitize" it between transfers?

I have 2 on the way but can order 2 more if necessary. But I wanted to check first if there's a way to clean the first badge in time for the 3rd tank session. Would letting it sit on RODI work in between?

+1 The use of sanitizing agents (e.g. vinegar, bleach) will damage the badge, so all you can do is rinse it using RODI and gently wipe away any algae growth.

Letting it dry out thoroughly afterwards (a fan helps) will sterilize it of any parasites/diseases. The same as all your other TTM equipment.

If you are using TTM because you have recently detected C.Irritans in your DT and need to treat all your stock then yes Alert Badge is necessary.
However if it is for new additions (and only 1 or 2 fish) then the Seachem Alert Badge is not really needed.
Just make sure you:
- Don't over stock the tanks/containers
- Don't over feed
- Remove excess food
Changing the tank/containers every 72 hours should be able to avoid ammonia spikes.
I only use the Alert Badges once they have completed TTM and ready for the remaining QT for observation.

I've never put much stock into badges maybe it's just me but I've seen them not register many times. I Just get into the routine of hitting the water changes and testing daily

I never properly QT'd my 3 remaining fish. I've never seen any indication of marine ich but since I'm setting up a 225 that will house far more than 3 fish I figure now is the time to do it right. Plus, it will give me practice with fish that are already eating well and not stressed out from shipping. The badges are cheap insurance. It would suck to have these fish for 7 years plus and then lose them during TTM.

I've dosed ammonia before to cycle a tank and the badge I used tracked the dosage perfectly. Could be just luck of the draw. Ideally shouldn't need to change the water during TTM.
