TTM Day2: I think there's ich

I think, to be safe, I would abandon TTM and go with Copper. Playing it safe, it the name of my game so that's my advice.

Fair enough. I have cupramine and copper power. I also bought rally for dipping. What protocol should I follow? The velvet treatment method @Humblefish wrote up seems to be focused more on obvious infections and is pretty drastic.

Also, I used Prime yesterday. Is that going to be an issue with the Copper Power?

Yes, It states Not to use any ammonia remover with the Cupramine. Can't say about the other copper treatments. If you put it in with cupermine, I would remove my fish, put them in a 5 gal bucket or another tank with a power head or air stone and do a 100% water change and start the treatment over.

For some positive news, everyone is still alive this morning. Lights aren't on but I don't see any spots.

Lights are up and I see some spots. Gonna do the whole treatment plan as soon as I finish making new saltwater for the tank.

Left cooler = freshwater dip
Right cooler = rally dip

Coolers are great. They keep the temp so I don't need two heaters.

They are in the rally dip now with about an hour to go.

Hospital tank is now at 2.5ppm copper, per Copper Power dosing and validated with Salifert test, with 100% new salt water to remove the prime used yesterday.

Everyone came through the first two stages looking no worse for wear. I'm not seeing any immediate issues with the copper. I'm going to leave the lights off for most of the day so they can relax now. Day 1 of 14 under way.

Thanks. I hope so. First fish I've bought in probably 5 years and it took me a year to find them. I'll be darned if some parasite is gonna beat me now!

Those are fairly small to be ick. I lean more towards velvet, but it could be either. How many transfers have you done on him so far? Brew is right, if it's ick, TTM will take care of it.

I tend to agree I think that's velvet. TTM won't help if it is. Watch it very carefully

24 hour update: Everyone looks and is acting fine. The fish are eating well and they're actually starting to color up. Guess these guys don't mind copper. 13 days to go

Tomorrow will be 14 days in copper. All of the fish really look fantastic. They've colored up wonderfully, they're getting these beautiful streamers on their tails and these amazing purple and blue accents on the fins. None of the pictures I've seen of these fish have captured them even remotely closely. I'll attempt to do so at some point

I'm planning to move them from the hospital tank and into an observation tank (no copper) tomorrow. The velvet thread says to then watch them for another 2 weeks to make sure no symptoms come back, so that's my plan. I'd like to put the observation tank where the current hospital tank is, but I'm concerned about aerosol transmission of the velvet (which is hopefully dead). If I move the fish from the hospital tank into a bucket, clean out the hospital tank and then setup the holding tank with water that was mixed far away from the hospital tank, should I be OK? I think so, but I want to be certain.

Ha! Ok. I have all separate equipment for the other tank with the exception of the light.

Yup just remember wet hands, nets, equipment can all contaminate. Everything, including your hands, should be washed and dried. The hands in between handling each tank and it's equipment.
