I am about to complete my 5th transfer. The 72 hrs will be at 8 pm but something has come up and I may not be able to make it back home in time. What is the earliest I can do a transfer? I can a few hours early would that be okay?

You can do the transfers as soon after the last as you want, but you will have to add an extra transfer to the schedule. It's always better to do the transfer sooner than planned then to be late for one.

No, you should be fine. But FYI a transfer can never exceed 72 hours (you said 73).
