I have some new clowns that I'm going through this right now and I have a question about getting the fish out if I pour the water from the bucket into the plastic colander then grab them with my hand woudl that still transfer the ich? or not?

I want to make sure so i don't have to spend another 3 days on i from messing up the first time.

A negligible amount of water will be transferred along with the fish. Whether you use your hand, colander, net to do the transfer. This is fine and is taken into consideration during the four transfers / 13 day protocol.

Generally not, I always rinsed fish in another bucket prior to transfer.

I quit tank transfer method though after cross contaminating to much, death by ammonia, and after realizing velvet and brook easily survived it and it seemed to be a waste of my time.

That doesn’t mean it can’t be done well, I just didn’t figure it out. Also, because of the fact that velvet is more common or as common as ich (in my opinion), I don’t see it as a good option when Chloroquine Phosphate and Copper both treat ich and velvet. Chrolorquine also treats uronema and brook, but it is hard to get.

Just my .02

I am just in the process of finishing my TtM with two clowns in a set of 5 gallon buckets. They look good but that is to be expected I feel until I put them into a hospital tank whilst my display continues to be fallow.
What is your favorite type of copper for copper treatment (there are so many) and would you suggest I gave these clowns some time in a copper setup? I want to make sure stuff is actually gone and I think copper will fix nearly all my problems.

Copper power, hanna copper checker and HotRocks stickied guide on copper power dosing

If the TTM tanks are sized correctly to the fish, ammonia shouldn’t be an issue in the 3 days they are in there. Not everyone has 2 spare 40breeder or the water capacity for that though. But I agree- with velvet and brook prevalence, TTM has been superseded by updated copper (or chloroquine phosphate) methods

Copper Power and Hanna Copper Checker.

CP is great for fish that can handle it. Metroplex + Copper Power handles uronema + velvet + ich + brooklynella + some bacterial infections (not all of them though). It's a great mix and we've started doing this with great success. However, we've not updated our stickies because we want to test it further.

Thank you for this. I am trying to pick up a complete set of medications whilst not going insane buying literally everything known to man / listed. I will look into the combination. Is this similar to Prazipro? Or would I also want that on hand

Nah- general cure has praziquantel and metronidazole in it, plus it doesnt cause a bacterial bloom abd is easier to use. As soon as my new order of GC comes in, I’m done using Prazi. I should never have gone back to using it tbh

I agree that General Cure is a better product, but I do keep Prazi on hand for when GC doesn't work --- it's a lesser dose of Praziquantel than Prazipro. Prazipro is also a great dip if you need temp relief and you need more time in quarantine in another medication and don't want to dose more medications -- although I find that Metro + Copper is a great and reliable method. Prazi or General Cure handle the only other common ailment aside from serious infections.

I would keep Kanaplex and Furan 2 on hand, use with metroplex for nasty infections. In the case of mouth infections, sulfaplex works well.

Ok so now I am completely getting confused. I thought general cure was a form of copper. But now I have the following I believe I need to order

Copper power
General cure
Metroplex
Kanaplex
Furan

Copper checker Hannah

Is that correct? Or do I need Prazipro. Is that just a form of copper?

Prazi pro is praziquantel and used for flukes generally. General cure contains praziquantel and metroplex mostly, it is used for flukes and a wider range of internal parasites because it contains metro.

Neither is copper.

Thank you for this, I was confused whether Prazipro was included in general cure.

So
copper power
General cure
Metroplex
Furan
Kanaplex

Is that a complete list I can order to have a good ability to tackle marine diseases? What’s the shelf life of the products?
