If day one begins when you bring your fish home and into the bucket at 3:00pm, does day 12 transfer to QT or display need to be after 3:00pm ( the 72 hours is not relevant here since it's only 48hours)? I ask because technically 12 full days would be after 3pm in this hypothetical.

· 72-hours rule: You can do transfers sooner than 72 hours, but you should not go over 72 hours by much; if you inadvertently go over the 72 hours when performing a transfer by more than even an hour, then you must start over again with TTM from Day 1 to be absolutely sure the treatment was effective. See ‘Why/how does it work?’ below for why.
· 12-days rule: The minimum treatment period for TTM is 12 days. This equates to 4 transfers total, every 72 hours. You can do more than 4 transfers within the 12 days as long as (1) the last transfer is performed after 12 days OR longer and (2) you first-and-foremost follow the 72-hours rule above. If you miss a transfer at any point in the process, you must start over at Day 1 to be sure the treatment is effective. Examples of day-combinations that work just fine:
o 4 total changes – 3+3+3+3 = 12
o 5 total changes - 2+3+2+3+2 = 12
o 6 total changes - 2+2+2+2+2+2 = 12
o Daily (24-hour period) changes are discouraged as it may not allow for sufficient time to disinfect the tank and equipment between transfers

I got that part. See, the transfer was done last night. Saturday is only 48 hours and on day 12. I'm trying to find out if it matters what time day twelve the transfer is done on. Is the time of day day 1 starts relevant to when day 12 is complete?

in your experience, how stressed are the fish when they are transferred and are they eating at all? How many/what type of fish are you doing with TTM? I'm going to perform TTM next week on my 8 fish wondering how yours are doing

Every transfer has to be done in 72 hrs or less once TTM begins. You can transfer the fish early (24 hrs, 48 hrs, etc.) but then you will need to do extra transfer(s) at the end in order to reach Day 13.

Day 13 is the "finish line"; when the fish is transferred for the final time.

hi humble, why would one want to do MORE transfers than necessary? Isnt that a waste of salt time etc?

  1. To control ammonia, if one didn't want to use an ammonia reducer.
  2. Scheduling conflict, if one couldn't make the transfer near the 72 hr mark due to other commitments (like work.)

They don't appear stressed. I've not done more than three at a time, and I've used 5 gallon buckets. I've done clownfish, Blackcap Basslet, an annoying gobie, and am currently doing a Yellow tang right now. This tang will only eat frozen food that I've noticed.
