I just love this old school acropora. I found a frag locally and was thrilled to get it in the tank. I have had it in the past, had excellent growth and color and then bumped it off its rock, re-glued it and the next day it was White Toast . Over time I have heard others mention that it is finicky, tempermental, fragile, difficult to keep etc. So I am wondering how many of you folks have kept this acropora longer term...to colony size. I am giving it another try thanks to Bryan but I wonder long term how this coral has done for others over the last 6 years. Any pictures would be added bonus

Any pics from when you had it last time? Would love to see a pic.

I had a frag a few years back but it was the first to go when alk took a dip.

As you already know Alicia, I had a larger colony but it went bye bye in the tank switcharooni. I know Ryan has a decent sized piece growing in his 300.

I never did get a picture of it when it was growing and doing well. Prodman has it as his avatar over on RC.

Yep, I remember your colony. You and Paul were the only ones I saw who could keep it alive for a long time. i know Brian had it for a period as well. I think I have tried htis coral 3 different times, only once did I get the frag to take...then months later..like 5 or 6 months later, I bumped it.

Where did you have it flow wise? had very little flow in the tank it was in when it was happiest, but I think that was just a fluke. I put it about half way up...lots of room for growth and a pretty decent flow zone.

Alicia, I found to be SUPER fickle. I kind of gave up on it. :(

Jay, I know, I know...I am probably really crazy to try it again, but the colors and growth are really nice on that coral. I put it in a spot it can live easily without my clumsy hands knocking it over...at least I hope that will be the case. 48 hours and it is looking very happy. It took shipping well, which totally amazed me. I guess time will tell.

You're not crazy Alicia. I recently got another piece as well :xd: I had mine in what I would consider moderate flow in my whirlpool of a tank ;)

AAAAHHHH....Something about an a.horrida..I think its those meaty polyps...The tubbs was nice...with the shades of purple....

I have one now, two branches. One branch about 5" long the other about 2" long. Mine is nice and blue with white polyps. I love this coral. I have it about 15" directly under a 250 watt phoenix and its done so/so. Its held its color pretty well, and its developed a nice smear about as big as a quarter, but hasnt grown much otherwise in 4-5 months. I'll try to post pics, but Im not really photographically inclined if you know what I mean. Also a little lazy.

I had it a couple yrs ago. Lost it with the tank crash. Alica have you seen the Aussie horrida's yet? I have a couple small frags of it growing out. One is purple with w/white polyps and the other is green w/white polyps. They both have a lot of potential to be nice.

This is a few days after we received it. Picture does not do this coral justice I will have to get an updated shot

this one is probably the most finicky acro i have. I got a frag about 6-7 months ago and it has gone back and forth. It hasnt encrusted much but has branched a little. I had very similar luck with the ora purple pillow. I still love the thing though. When it's happy it looks great.
