I've had 3 gorgeous tube anemones for almost a year, all very healthy but the largest seems to leave his tube every 3 months or so. I have to pull out his old tube and bury him back into the sand. It's never caused any issues, he just grows another. Our sandbed is approx 3 inches deep. Do they do this when they run out of space or bump into another tube under the sand? It's a tube anemone only tank. They all live peaceful and its never been an issue, I'm just wondering why he does this. The old tube I pulled out was about 12 inches. I'm guessing it's a space issue. It definitely doesn't seem to cause any problems apart from getting him settled back in the sand after he floats after aborting. The only real worry is not catching it avd him ending up in a filter. They are covered but those tenticles can enter the smallest of spaces. No wave maker in their tank they can enter.

We have two tanks, one has a divide so I can keep them without losing any expensive fish. I've lost a few gobys avd filefish. Expensive dinners lol their area is confined but still shares the water from our 150 gallon set up. I'm. Just wondering if its maybe not enough room too grown under the sand with three the other two are still quite small in comparison, they are about 6 months old. Just worried that they will do the same once fully grown and all competing for sand space again, it's never harmed him, I just need to bury him every few months to grow a new tube. Very odd. I'm not too concerned as there have been no issues, I'd just rather him not abort!

I remember when I had mine I had a deep sand bed bc that was the thing to do 15 years ago. Lol. I had about 5 inches deep. The tubes were super long and intertwined.

If you still read this post I know the reason. Your sand bed is not deep. I the wild these guys burry their bodies vertically. So the setup you have for them currently is very stressful, I assume the guy is getting too big to extend from it's horizontal position. So it's looking for a deeper sandbed
