When tube feeding a an emaciated fish what is the recommended first food to give. I read something about a sugar mix somewhere but I can't find that info now.

When making a slurry for tube feeding are you using tank water, rodi water, or filtered tap?

I use LRS fish frenzy. Brine shrimp also acceptable as is mysis

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Have you seen this article I posted here?

I did yes, I didn't see the answers to my specific questions unfortunately.
You should use fresh mixed seawater at 1.016 as your solvent for the food mix for best results. Tap water would be my second choice. Don’t use tank water or RODI.
Some veterinarians use Critical Care which is a sugar based food mix for baby birds.
You mentioned the fish is emaciated - if it is too thin, it will have used its liver as a food source and although alive, may not be savable by tube feeding.

can you post a pic or two of the fish under white lighting?

Here is the material that some aquatic vets use:

Thanks. Yes I think he's probably too gone to save but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. It's a moorish idol from Dr reef(already quarantined), when it came it was already extremely thin, and I gave it 7 days before deciding to go with this method to see if he can be saved.

Here's a couple. It's hard to capture how thin he is but next to him is a far yellow for comparison.

NO offense to Dr Reef - IMHO - a Moorish idol should be received in mint condition.. If not. - well all good - or bad as one might take it.

it seems though - that unless I'm missing something @Dr. Reef doesn't answer much so hard to vouch for or against him/her

@MnFish1 No one needs to vouch, a quick search here will reveal the reviews.

Moorish idols are extremely hard to eat in most cases. Then subject them to medications such as copper and prazi almost kills their food intake. by the time we are done with them, they are either almost dead or most do die in qt and if they survive they are eating and are skinny by that time. Its one fish that comes with a huge warning on my website thats states its for experts only. but thats doesnt stop the sale. people still wanna try.

Fish is thin as you already know and adding vitamins such as Selcon will help with immunity system. You may get lucky with brine shrimp and blackworms If you can find it.
