I am in the process of transferring all my coral to a new aquarium and in the dipping/cleaning process noticed this hole in the skeleton of my hammer. Also noticed some strange (to me) orange coloration on one side of it.

No idea if its something to worry about or not so leaving it in the old aquarium until I’m certain. Opens up nicely during the day. Lights have been off for a couple hours now and just popped them on with some heavy whites to take these pictures.

Anything to worry about?

Thanks!

Barnacle most likely. They don't "hurt" anything, but if they die whats left in the hole can go toxic and end up causing distress to the Hammer or Torch, which then can cause them bail out.
Had it happen to an Indo Gold Torch. Was cool while the Barnacle was alive though with it flitting in and out.

Next time I get something with one I plan to Dremel out the top area, and extract/flush out the barnacle tissue. At least that will keep it from going toxic rather than waiting for if (when) it inevitably dies.

Thank you!

Have’t seen anything flitting in and out in time I’ve had it and the hole appears empty so hopefully its a non issue.
