Watch the anemone when you do water changes and clean ur tank. Most of the time they won't harm you? But they defiantly can. Feels way worse then a bee sting and takes a long time to heal. I have 2 in my tank. Sometimes they just float around the tank for no reason sometimes it means u have a water problem. At least that's my experience with them.

I wear gloves lol! I took it out when i was messing around, with gloves. I am WAY too afraid to even go in the tank without gloves when the nem is close to where i need to work. lol and not all the time so you have a water problem, could just be the nem isn't happy where he was too. Thanks

Poor Ophelia. I think she's on her way out. Looks like the foot is disentigrating or the gastric cavity is coming out, either way it's not happy. I'm blaming the hermit for this one, It was ALWAYS irritating it, had to bat it away with my stick all the time. I tested perameters when I noticed she didn't want to open often, and everything was fine. Has been eating, color is less see through, has a brown tint to it which was good, it was staying in it's spot, it pooped once that I saw, the fish never bothered it. It's in a QT plastic thing (top of the test kit box lol) in the tank so if/when it dies it wont fowl my water. Also could be maybe it didn't like my lights but there are spots for it up top also. 
Sad. Maybe next year.
Sidenote: anyone know what bristle worms look like dried? I do.. lol. I was cleaning up the sand bed of shells, and put them in a container, I had dumped in all the worms I saw, apparently were still some decent sized ones in a shell or 2, because they were dried on the wall of the container. They look a lot different dried.. lol!

Whoops, neglected this thread a bit. Tank is fine, been at a good plateau, great growth, coralline explosion. I lost my last hermit, he crawled out somehow, I hadn't seen him in a while, i went to take out the buckets to water change, and found him behind them, dead. Guess he was sick of me burying him under the sand so other critters could get some food, lol!

I need to beef up my cuc. NO MORE nassarius though, i have enough of those. I have been getting a bit of cyano type film on the glass where I haven't cleaned in a while, which is weird. I'd like to get another starfish, since mine died months back because I didn't test the nitrate levels often, or WC a whole lot, which I do now, not testing as much but WC. I would maybe need to make sure my rock is solid first, I have good hiding places but the top 2 rocks are semi moveable, and i dont want to epoxy because I plan to upgrade next year sometime. Maybe a shrimp too, cleaner shrimp, we'll see, all depends on how life goes the next couple months, if I get a job, if I don't...

Nice tank, Tulip! I know what you mean about never being satisfied with the scape, always trying to change mine. And my clowns are ALWAYS photo bombing.
How do you like the RODI? I am thinking of getting one, a little scared that it'll change the process which I believe is running very smooth, but don't want to ignore the potential benefit of better water.
How's the anem? Sounds like it didn't make it . Definitely get some shrimp, they are great scavengers are very fun to watch. Mine dance a lot, peppermint shrimp, pop out of their homes and just break it down from time to time, extremely entertaining.

Thank you! I am a perfectionist, so like if i'd move it now to clean or search, it would have to go exactly where it was, or i feel really crabby, i dont know it's weird. Are they (the clowns)? Mine really want to be in photos, but then I take intentional photos of them and they dart off... A*holes... ha!
I LOVE the RODI unit. No more going to the store, no more using tap, easier to do water changes, and i forget i even spent over $100 something on it haha! I even use the waste water (I save some in a 1 gal) for watering my flowers and filling up my rat's water bottle, I may even bottle some for cooking one of these days. The only thing i dont like is that I didn't get 2 meters, to test out the waste water PPM as well as the end PPM, which is sort of important for monitoring when to replace what, and not ruining the DI because you didn't change the other membranes in time, etc. But this unit was a cheaper one from BRS, the value one i think it was? Not sure, but I would never ever go back, ever. It made my process more smooth, and more rot in my floor haha (Its tricky when to watch it to make sure it doesn't overflow because I don't have an autostop valve, another thing to get!)
The nem died, was around for a few months, and I was surprised, but I think part in hidden nitrates I had, and didn't know of, and lighting maybe made it not do so well. I'm a nem newbie so i didn't expect it to make it a whole long time, and as you can tell it was bleached when i got it, but got a bit better from daily feedings but i guess just not enough. So far in this saltwater journey i've lost a fish (from two fighting, marjani won... and became a girl and i got a new fish and its still a boy and they love each other! ) two hermits, a starfish, and two anemones (I got two that day but one was REALLY see through), and odds and ends snails, and because of stupid hermits, some zoas and a mushroom.. so glad the hermit is gone, in a way.
I'm just afraid of it touching me, and surviving. I don't test a whole lot, and Im sure my salinity fluctuates a lot as i dont have auto top off and dont even check the salinity when i pour some RODI in, and i know shrimp are sensitive to that, even though my hermit didn't care until he crawled out of the tank the other day and died.:squigglemouth: I want to get the red and white long whisker type, i heard they are friendly, and i'd love to watch them clean, It was my original intent to get one, but got a starfish instead because of my salinity swing.

welcome and you will love the forums on here R2R.....nice tank..i started small 37 high..went to 55 gal..now have a 125....you will always want to go bigger...its just the HOBBY.......larger tank, more stuff

I know. I started at a 10.. and then a month later got a 20.. but money has been very strapped (IE no $ for rent in november or forward, eek and no job prospects) or i would have had a 40b now, ha ha. It's a horrible, horrible addition, endless cycle.. when is it big enough?

Well... we have a new addition.. I rescued a hermit. My coworker went to FL and picked up shells, and ended up getting a hitchhiker, so she found out 7 days later... and her & I both live in Central WI, he had some water and some sand from FL to survive on, lost the big claw in a fall.. and now he is in my tank. I'm pretty sure this is a thin striped hermit, so he will get pretty big, he's in a 1-1.5" shell right now, so probably by my tank upgrade next year (to a 40b) his 4" size shouldn't be TOO much of an issue as long as i supplement his feeding... so... what to call him... any suggestions ?

I'm glad these hermits are adjusting well, they've been eating my hair algae patches that have regrown, and grown bigger since i scrubbed my rocks, which my last hermits didn't do, lazy *******s. These hermits also like nori a lot, i feel better giving them that sometimes so I know atleast they get enough food. They haven't fought yet, Don't know why. Maybe they are glad to have each other in the scary new glass box after their long trip. The latter found one had been out of sea for two weeks! Crazy guys. They havent tipped over my corals yet either, so over all.. I think i'm in love <3
I really need to scrape the coralline off the glass, its everywhere.. and odd algae patches and stuff, don't know how that comes about, prob have nitrates or something, gotta water change again soon, did it last weekend, but not what I usually do.
What I do know is, provided I can figure out how to keep this tank after im house-less and job-less, it needs a new filter. I have the foster smith brand filter, I want something that cleans the water better, and more space to put stuff. I'd like to just get a 40B and put that partition in the back or side to filter that way making it an AIO. We'll see. I'm also out of carbon, and dont' have the $10-12 to buy it from DFS. Dangit. I'm going to have to use the ammonia remover+carbon mix i have from before. And I need to bleach my purigen.
That's all the updates for now.

I got a hammer and millepora Sunday from a few reef club members, mille is amazing, the hammer is doing okay, it's younger i believe, it's a pink branching type. It ate a shrimp pellet each head (and has more heads on the way looks like) I have it where the tentacles flow gentlyish, top of the rock work so about half the tank height, anything else I can do to keep it thriving?
