Hey guys I have a Vertex Omega 130 skimmer followed all the directions for breaking in the skimmer I've been running it for about 3 days now and all it does is over flow I've literally tried changing the air intake on the pump one full turn at a time and waiting a half hour in between each full turn to make another full turn I can for the life of me get this thing to skim right I've slowly closed and opened the riser tube nothing, I've moved it to a low flow area in my sump and done everything I can find in a video on how to tune this thing and have had zero luck anyone have had this same problem and fixed it? The skimmer is not in too much or too little water it's within the recommended water height from the manufacturer I just don't know what the heck else to try!

Give it some time. Do you have any fish in the tank? Any inverts? It will take time to tune it in. Also don't try to raise it or lower it at first let it find its way. Leave it at the recommended height value
Also once it's tuned in whenever you totally clean the whole thing leave it at the setting you have. Depending upon what you have in the tank you may see it settle down in a week all depends
Let it ride

I have 2 clowns and a few hermit crabs as of right now. So should I take the cap to the collection cup off and just let it overflow?

How long has the tank been up and if it's running Clear YES go ahead it's normal for now

The tank has been up about 3 and a half weeks now the skimmer about a week

Yes about the fish? And you really don't have anything in the tank to speak how big is the tank?
Unless your throwing tons of food in there you really don't have anything for it to produce skimate with.
Give it a chance it will settle down. Your tank is in a reality brand new you have a ways to go yet
Patience my son patience

The tank is a Red Sea Reefer 250 so in total with sump it is 64 gallons

Yes that will happen you don't have enough of anything to get any skim
You have some inverts and two clowns two clowns in a 64 gal tank ( I went through the very same thing with same amount of fish and size of Tank

Give it time and a chance

Ok I will do that thank you for the help. I will post an update when it finally breaks in

Yes it is my wife and I. Thank you for the support and also for your service!

Thank you guys for your service !!! I would say your allowing too much water flow into the chamber , not sure on that model but on an eshopps you twist your red tube to control that , as a rule of thumb I run the bubbles right to under where your collection cup throat starts i.e. ... that bracket that hold the red pvc to the body . I have never used anything but eshopps , and never had "break in " or anything I have seen people post about youll be able to fine tune it to get the dryest skimmate possible but , it appears your way out of whack , and the adjustments on the tube you should start closed which should make no bubbles, then slowly turn it up a little then wait like 2 mins to see where the top of the bubbles are then keep going a little then wait until you reach that bracket then it will build up a head and go up the collection tube and overflow into the cup, hope that helps

The red tube is a riser tube so where the opening on the bottom is in the white pvc the water is blowing out not coming in from the way it seems to me the water is being drawn in completely by the pump unless I have it set up wrong which I don't think because the air intake on the pump only fits on that part of the pump I'm not sure what's going on I'm going to try waiting it out if that doesn't help I'm going to call Vertex and see what they recommend I do

Yes but he has nothing in the tank other than two clowns and some inverts. It's a 65 gal tank he has to give it time to make protein to clean up. It doesn't matter that he can adjust it because even if he has it at it lowest setting it will still overflow until he starts getting more waste/protein in the system
