Tunze 3155 Osmolator - safe to purchase used?

I have the opportunity to snag a used Tunze 3155. Would the savings be worth the risk?

Don't see why not as long as you feel you can trust the seller (which is anything used right?). The pump fails before the controller so may need a new pump, but that's routine maintenance every couple years anyway.

Generally yes given the reputation of the 3155. Still depends on who your dealing with. If it's someone who has been on reef2reef a long time, that's obviously better than someone on craigslist. I'd pay up to $125 if the person seemed trust worthy. Beyond that, I'd by new.

Agree with above post. I bought a used Tunze 3155 from here about 1 1/2 ago, and its still working great. Pump is loud, but I think that is just the Tunze pump in general.

Yeah no kidding. That loud hum was surprising. It does make a good alarm when you're out of water though....it goes from loud hum to "who the heck is shaking that can of marbles...oh yeah, need more ATO water."

Used is not an issue if it works. Test it first if you can.
I have one that is going on 6 years with the same pump and one that is 2 years.
I have 2 backup pumps as I have backups for all my equipment.
I run mostly Tunze equipment and Roger is great if you need anything.
I like the noise as it lets you know its working.

Yes... it will wake you up from a deep sleep after a 3 day drinking binge.

Put it this way. Many of us have owned one and used it for years. Tossed it in a box in thr basement where it sat for another however many years. Pulled it out of the basement and ran it again for 5 years where it continues to work to this day.

A lot of us are running used ones! ;-)
