Hi ,

Am planning for a 30x24 in tank of predominantly sps after 4-5 years of being
Out of the hobby .
When it comes to power heads , things have changed a lot with the new Jebao series or the vortech qd series .
However , am old school and like radiums in metal halide lighting , I would like to rely on Tunzes ...
I have used the non-controllable ones in the past and now aiming for 2 6055 and may be add a 6040 later ..

So wanna know what's ur verdict on the 6055 and 6040 ? Do they still hold upto the old Tunze standards ?

Regards,
ABHISHEK

i have just added a 6055 to my reefer 350 as well as my gyre....my gyre is now being sold and getting another 6055. one thing i will say....man these things are super super quiet and i have it on about 1/4 power and I'm thinking any more and that'll be too much with 2 in the tank.

I prefer the 6095 due to wider flow than 6055.

I have not found the ultra-wide format of the 6095's to be particularly advantageous in my 50 breeder (roughly 36x18x18"). It's crowded with coral....around 30-40% "open space" left. I've even considered switching to the 6055's.

I'm curious what's your strategy in "aiming" your 6095's when setting them up?

You will not be disappointed in any of the new pumps - they still do it best, IMO.

If you try one that doesn't fit the bill as well as you'd like, my experience suggests that most local fish stores that carry Tunze would be flexible enough to return the pump to stock as "new" and set you up with your next choice. Obviously this can be clarified in advance....ask about it even if you buy online. (It's not a small purchase, so this seems reasonable to me....and I've known stores to have that policy.)

That said....

I'd consider a pair of the new 6040's. Should be plenty of power, and they give you some unique placement options.

Also don't feel like you have to turn up your nose to the non-controllable AC pumps. A four-pack of (adjustable now!) 6045's running a tide simulation via two simple appliance timers would rock a little tank like that. Also very cost-effective! :) :)

thank you with the explanation.

You almost read my mind reading about different tunze pumps. But I read that since 6045/6025 are not controllable, its not advisable to turn them on and off periodocally.
How do you propose to control them ? With an apex or GHL profilux which I have in mind ..

Simple lamp timers, or simple controlled outlets will do. No special cords needed for the AC pumps.

And for a tide simulation, you're only switching them every three to six hours.....one side of the tank runs for however-many-hours, then the other side of the tank runs.

I can see where the 6095 might not be advantageous in an 18 inch wide tank. I sometimes have to remember that not everyone has a large tank.

For me I try to create flows in different angles. It really depends on the aquascaping. Sometimes I'm blowing across the tank, Sometime I thank the flow off of the glass. I really like the 6095 even in a large tank since it packed some big power in a small package.

If I was to go AC I would suggest getting the Rossmont Waver to control them. This device offers a way to control AC pumps just like DC pumps. Also, their pumps seem to be pretty high quality although you won't find Tunze USA support!

That it does.....with a 24v jumper the 6095 is pretty serious! :)

I may yet switch to some of the new 6040's or the classic 6055's...or some combo. The 6095's seem like they could use more room to work. On the other hand, I've flowed this tank with a set of 6045's before, so I know 6055's would work well.

Just adding a 6040 to my 6095's is another option I've thought about.

So many options and so much time to ponder when you can't (currently) afford any of them! ;) :D

Just to clarify, it's only their AC pumps (called "Movers™") that can be controlled.

This won't help any of us with our "regular" AC pumps. :)

Pretty cool, but no miracles!

Seriously though pretty cool stuff !!!

And the price is not outrageous for the controller controlled through wifi and 2 A.C pump package of 3000 gph , about $315.

Only question is longevity and support in USA ..

Wonder if anyone have started using them and throw light on the performance ..

i have 2 6040 controllable in my 40 breader love the flow works great no dead spots have them on back bottom on opposite sides and have the flow hood aimed toward center.
Old School also
I Love all Tunze products !!!!

I'm not the OP, but thanks for that post! :)

Any chance you could post a tank pic so I/we can see what kind of rock/coral layout you have?
