I was looking at the Tunze 7000 controller and wondered if any of you have one and how you like it? Have you used it to control a Calcium reactor? What is your experience?

Looks like a decent controller for the price. I don’t have one, but hopefully someone who has first hand experience will chime in!

The controller is probably fine. Tunze makes good stuff.

You do not need a controller for a CaRx and are better off without one. If you want to get it anyway, then cool, but if it truly just for a CaRx, then learn to tune the thing by hand by counting drops, bubbles and measuring the dKh output. This is way more consistent and reliable than a pH controller turning a solenoid on and off.

If you have your mind made up, then ignore me. If you want more info on how to not use a pH controller for a CaRx, then there is a recent thread that I can link upon request.

I have the Smartcontroller. I don't use it for a calcium reactor so can't comment on that part.

Otherwise I can say it's an excellent, reliable, no frills controller. It controls my temperature to within .2-.3 degrees variation. If you have Tunze pumps it adds a bunch of additional controlability. The only thing I will say is that the switched sockets are a bit pricey. You get what you pay for of course with Tunze though.

Please Post the recent thread for me and others. I would be interested in limiting the possible levels of failure. Keeping things simple is always a great idea. I would like to have a solenoid to shut off the CO2 when to control the PH swings between the day and night cycle. I have noticed declines in the PH levels at night and increase in the day due to photosynthesis (Transpiration and Respiration cycles). Not sure a reverse daylight refugium will solve that swing but it might help.
Thanks,
