Well first of all, I wanted to thank everyone on this forum for all the help that is on here. I have learned so much from you guys on here. That being said, I need some help that I cannot seem to find an answer to...
I am in the process of cycling a 180 gallon tank that I am super excited about and decided on getting some solid equipment. I picked up a new reef octupus varios 8 return pump and didnt wanna cheap out on the power heads either (ive had enough of the cheap chinese ones for now). I was torn between the tunze 6105s and the ecotech mp40s. I currently have a comline wave box, and I have read that a lot of people have noise issues, wet side failures, and I do not like how you are stuck with the pump being flat against the glass with the mp40s. So that being said, I found a real nice setup used for a pair of 6105 pumps and the 7096 controller and picked them up. The pumps run well when plugged in, currently cleaning them up and getting them ready to go in the tank. This gets me to where the problem starts, the 7096 controller.... I downloaded the update and newest files from tunzes website, extracted and installed them. no probems there. After a bunch of research, I knew ahead of time that I would have to fiddle with com port settings, compatibility modes etc. I set my controller up to be on com 3, set the flow control to Xon/Xoff. made sure that the programs would be run as administrator. At first the multicontroller software said unit no unit found.... I think, oh great, here we go. I then looked at the drivers for the ftdi usb serial converter drivers for the 232 chip and they are all up to date. Ive tried running in compatability mode all the way from windows 10 to 8, to 7, vista, and xp. nothing. So now, I think its in the firmware of the unit. I open up avrootloader to access the flash program and to see if that connects. What do you know, bam it connects immediately. I then find the acy file in the downloaded update and hit program. Looked at the protocol history and it flashed and was a program success in just over 5 seconds. I then try to go back to the multicontroller software, open it normally and I can barely catch that it says com port access denied before it says unit not found. So now I double check all of the rights of the software and confirm that I am running as administator. I then catch that it says com port 3 does not exist before it says unit not found... And this is where i am stuck. How does the avrootloader software find the device but the multicontroller software does not? i try to pull the eeprom data from the unit and it says that no bootloader from device. Well, now I have no clue where else to turn as I sit staring at my computer wishing my pumps were in the tank running along like they should.
Sorry for the long right up, but I wanted to give you guys a good idea of what I have done, and actually researched before asking another question. It seems that I am going to have to get ahold of tunze and send this module in and have them handle it.
little bummed because I was super excited about finally having really nice pumps and programmable power heads but I guess not yet. any help would be greatly appreciated.
