Tunze 9001

Howdy,

I am hoping some other reefers can relate here. I have had the tunze 9001 running for about a year now. I have never truly been able to get this skimmer to skim sludge. It's either so wet the cup needs to be emptied daily & or it's so sludgy it doesn't enter the cup but remains at the top of the neck.

I have it running on a 30 AIO with 5 fish & loads of CUC.

I believe it's at the correct water height - the little wave mark on the outside of the skimmer - the water height in the chamber is kept constant with an ATO. I am wondering if I need to get the DC model to tune further? Or do I simply not have anything to skim???

This skimmer is tough to get making the skimmate you see from larger in sump skimmers. Adding the DC pump doesn't help much in my experience so I wouldn't spend your money on that. It is what it is: a small skimmer that takes stuff out. It just can't do it like the big boys. But it is helping your tank!

Fair enough I get gunk just not like my ice cap in my frag tank

I just got the same skimmer as well as the in tank media box for a RSM 130d idk what I’m doing wrong but so far this skimmer is not that great.

Just got the DC version myself 3 days ago and it’s still breaking in. Today it had enough to empty but it was a dark wet tea colored skim so I know it’s pulling something.

I have a dc that I used on my 25 nano. It always skimmed wet. I believe it would be good in an all in one small nano.
Was to small for my 25 and I upgraded to a coralbox 300. Night and day difference.
