Anyone have one of these? I'm reading good things I just want to know about the noise level....thanks

And I love it! All those people talking about how to tune a skimmer for foam or tea or whatever....just drop it in and adjust the speed once or twice. Haven't done more than clean the cup in 8 months. Bit pricey and bit old on style (I guess - pretty skimmer isn't a big thing for me - I want it easy and functional). It just works! And support is fantastic on anything Tunze thanks to Roger!

Ya thats all I want. Something that is set and forget and is quiet. Does it overflow when adding a new filter sock?

Don't use filter socks, but change out sponge doesn't cause issue. Only time had overflows were early on when using NoPoX - had to turn skimmer off for a few hours. Stopped using NoPoX (unrelated - tank just matured) and no overflows since. Quietly fills up over a couple weeks and I empty it. Only have 170 - so bit overkill (but on purpose). It dials down enough to support it just fine plus if (when) I go bigger, I'm set.

On a 170 gallon or red sea 170?

Also, are there micro bubbles?

Quiet, change sock, feed, work in tank, glue frags, clean the cup.
All have no effect on performance.
I have the dc on my 120 for 1.5 years now.
No doors.
Standard on my 45 frag and it does make noise.
No bubbles and I do not use the sock.
Return is right next to skimmer.
No baffles in sump.
Best water height is 6.5".

Thanks!

Is the DC model worth $70 more?
No, it's worth a lot more than that but don't tell Tunze. Was trying to find the warranty... remember it being very good for a DC pump. I expect it to last 5 years.

Hey, I just set up this skimmer and a couple of questions....first, it leans to the side of the pump, is that normal? Also, I am getting pretty heavy micro bubbles, should I expect that to go away?

You have to extend the intake a bit for stability when empty. Once it fills with water its stable. It operates over range of water heights, I think 8" is max...maybe 9" anyway I'm at max. It'll take a bit to break in and not over bubble. That's just the clean plastic developing a film. I tried soaking in vinegar with less success. Just took off lid and let it overflow for a week. I think it's on my build thread. But I remember getting really frustrated and then the next day was purring like a kitten. Bubble height perfect. Been that way ever since.

Thanks. Besides for the bubbles this thing is already skimming. Not silent but not annoying either....

Anyway to get rid of the popcorn sound? I think it's bubbles popping.
