Hey all, I'm looking to up grade my skimmer, from a Sro xl2000s . I was recommended the tunze 9430. Looked it up on YouTube. It looks dang good. Anyone here have one or experience with it ? Any feed back would be great . Thanks in advance.

I have one I have been running for a year or more on my 180 with 75 gallon sump. It’s awesome, don’t expect it to be quiet but the skimming is unreal. It pulls out so much dark skimmate. I literally have to wait until my wife leaves to clean it, the smell could choke a donkey. I don’t have the DC version, which I don’t think is necessary. I like simplicity. It keeps my tank so clean that I literally ditched my refugium and macro algae. Just no need for it anymore. Btw, it’s huge, like 5 gallon bucket big.

Wow sounds good, how loud is it ? Lol the 9430 is really that big ? Didbt look that big on you tube lol

It makes a continuous whooshing sound. I have taken the air hose off of the skimmer fitting and that quiets it slightly but it’s in an enclosed cabinet so I don’t think it’s too bad. It’s the price you pay for clean water. Size wise, the acrylic column isn’t as big as a five gallon bucket but the base is and is about as tall. I’m not home now to get you a good picture but you can kind of get a feel for it’s size here. Kind of dirty..sorry

the black base is just above the left 3 bottles. For size reference that a standard 75 gallon for a sump. Crap picture but all I have at the moment

I'm torn between the tunze and reef octopus

I can only speak on behalf of Tunze. I’m on my 6th skimmer. Only negative to the 9430 is having to unthread the pump off the fitting to remove for cleaning. Royal PITA, otherwise it’s awesome if you have the room.

Just did an initial review of the Tunze 9430-DC skimmer in this forum. Some of your question should be answered. I actually like that the pump is screwed as opposed to just pushed in or union attached. Just screw till it hits the o-ring and make it upright.

In my application the cord gets kinked from twisting the pump off. If I remove the whole skimmer it’s not an issue. It all depends on where it’s installed.

That makes since. I've never had to remove the pump unless I was cleaning the whole skimmer so it's always been out of the tank.

I have used the 9415 for the past two years on my 220 and IMO, its by far the easiest, most effective skimmer I have ever owned. Never have to play with the height or air. Once you set it, you can forget it. I just got the 9430 from a buddy that took his tank down and it's basically the same skimmer. 3" taller and a larger pump. Set it in, set the height to 7" and have not touched it.

You cant go wrong.
