image.jpg My pump quit working on my tunze ato 3155 and after doing some research I seen where this pump has problems. Is there an alternative replacment pump that is serviceable that will work with my 3155 or do I have to get a tunze?

I have the same ATO unit, like to heat what other experienced. My unit only 2 months old and still working fine. How long before your pump stopped working?

If you buy the Tunze "switched socket" outlet add on for the osmolator, you can plug any pump you want into that, AC or DC.

They are expensive though, and, you can likely build your own using project boxes and relay switches for under $20.

I lost one of them, but it was because I ran it dry one too many times. lol. Still worked actually it was just very loud. Only $23 for a replacement so no big deal really.

Ya $23 ain't bad at all but if the pump quits while I'm out of town then it wouldn't top off the tank. This time I was lucky and it was only spitting bubbles. And I'm only thinking about another pump cause of the reviews on the tunze pump

Mine has be going for 2 years now. Got loud at one time (still pumped water) so I ordered another. By the time it got here old one quieted down. Still using old one. Have new one for spare.

I am topping off with Kalk solution, will this make any difference in the wear?

You shouldn't be drawing kalk wasser through it. It will deteriorate the pump more rapidly. You can pump through a Nielsen reactor but put a check valve between the Tunze pump and the reactor.

I was just thinking since I had a maxi jet laying around I could cut the plug off it and wire it into the unit. ???? Hahaha

You probably need a DC 12v pump for it to work.
I thought they were coming out with new pumps along with the redesigned ATO.

Wow, personally, I've had really good luck with that pump. I have two of those ATO systems, plus I bought a third an additional pump that I connected to a power supply and a button that I use for pumping RODI up to my fish tank area. It's nice to have for things like refilling squirt bottles with RODI for rinsing things.

Care to share how you setup pump with button and power supply. Which powersupply.

It's nothing all that special. The power supply was just whatever old transformer (wall wart) I had laying around that provided the enough power. From what I'm seeing online, the pump needs 3-12v and IIRC, it draws just over an amp.

From there, just connect the power supply to the pump with the button spliced in to the circuit somewhere convenient.

ETA, come to think of it, I believe I actually got the power by tapping off the back of a nearby Kamoer pump. The built in ability to daisy chain power from one of those units to the next has come in handy a number of times.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would give my experience with these. I have had at least 4 osmolators over the years and I used to work at an LFS where we installed/sold nearly 100.

I have had pretty good luck with the pumps. My current pump is at least 6 years old as I haven't replaced it since my last tank move. On the other hand, I had multiple customers who seemed to replace the pump every 3-6 months. I never understood what was going wrong until it finally clicked. My current osmolator pump is in a container with a spectrapure dual float level controller. In other words the container never runs empty it runs to the last 3 in and then the spectrapure system turns on refilling it to the top. All of the customers who burned through pumps were commercial installs where a service technician would only stop by every 1-2 weeks to refill the top-off container. These pumps ran dry every 1-2 weeks for a strait 10 minutes before the osmolator safety timer turned off the pump. This is really bad for the pump.

As long as you don't let the pump run dry it should last a long time. It is best to top off your reservoir before it is close to 0, add a level sensor to your container to notify you that the level is low, or invest in an auto-filling system like the spectrapure one I have.

I have had two nano units for longer than 2 years now. I have run them dry numerous times, but they still work for me. One of them is extremely loud, but I haven't felt the need to replace it. Are the pumps different from the nano and the normal?
