Tunze circulation pump for nuvo 40

Hello- what do you think about this- longevity and would be ok with my nuvo 40- lps/soon moderate stock sps?
Had jebao twice and only lasted one year.

Reviews seem to be pretty good for this model and the deal seems pretty good. If it were me I'd drop another Benjamin and get an Ecotech MP10QD for longevity and controllability/backup battery option. Also not to mention a cleaner look with no power cable in the water. I run a MP10 and the Aqua spin stream nozzles on my IM40. It's plenty enough flow for SPS. My IM40 is mixed LPS/SPS and I don't run my MP10 over 50%.

Tunze is probably one of the best on the market.
The difference between the two types of pumps is the width of the head not power. An mp gives a wide wash of water while these will give a more of a narrow stream.
Similar to the difference between a gyre and and a maxijet. Those being the extremes.

The turbell being well over engineered tries to do both.

If the size of the body is not too large for the tank and the gph is similar to the old one then I'd say yea good choice.

You may even be able to get the step down but I'd really have to look at the specs of the pump the tank and actually Rock work as most don't even consider that in choosing a powerhead.

I think I need a circulation pump/pump with wide flow coverage being a cube tank.
My rock work will be minimal.

Time to do more Black Friday shopping and hoping to snag a deal.

2 year warranty on most of their pumps.... 5 year on the new Stream 3.

I'd consider the 6055, Turbelle® nanostream® 6095 and Turbelle® nanostream® 6040 as far as controllable pumps.

The Turbelle® nanostream® 6045 and Turbelle® nanostream® 6020 would either be a nice fit as far as AC pumps go.

For a small tank like that, I think the 6040 and 6020 might be the most intriguing options to me.

It's much better to run 2-4 smaller pumps than one large one. I'd start off with 2 of the 6040 or 6020. You can add or upgrade the pumps as your tank grows out. If money is no object then a couple of mp10's would be a good start.

Thank you. I like a pair of 6020 but is there a controller that I can buy seperately?
Or if I get a 6040 with the controller can I add 6020 using the same controller?

The 6020 is a regular AC pump, so you'd just control it with a timer. If you went that way, I'd run two timers and at least two 6020's...alternate them in banks so one pump (or one set) is on for a few hours and then switched off while the other pump (or set) runs for a few hours. Very nice way to do a tide simulation!

Budget - 2 Tunze 6040 ($140.00/each) Can be hidden behind rocks but have a cord inside the tank and pump heat.

Higher budget - 2 Vortech MP10wQD ($285.00/each) Can't hide but no wires in the tank and very minimal to no pump heat since the driver is on the outside.

Both can also be controlled with an Apex or their individual controllers.

Really depends on what your keeping, coral wise. I've got a Tunze 6040 and a Vortech MP40WQD on a 29 gallon standard tank. I keep sps so my Tunze is on one side running at 50% and the Vortech is running at 40% on the other side. IMO the wider the better so you do not have a concentrated stream running through the middle of the tank.

It's controllable and can also be run at a variety of different voltage levels, so it can be run on a very small tank, if needed.

I'm not a "wider is better" acolyte though.....that was a bad 90's TV advertising meme, not a flow strategy for 2016.

The 6095's are sweet for a wide-flow pump since they're infinitely flexible in placement and directionality.

However, I think you'll end up liking something more directional – at least as a supplement.

I really think four 6045's on a tide simulation would be a superior solution. More flow-outlets counts for a lot.

At least, I'd plan on having one or two 6045's for supplementary effect.

Worries over concentrated streams of water are really misplaced – we're not talking about using a Mag pump for flow, we're talking propellor pumps.

I run both Tunze and Ecotech in my tank. I've had both pumps in the last 10 years. Ecotech is nice because it's a little more controllable and keeps wires outside the tank although you do have a bulky driver on the outside and you're limited with positioning. tunze is a little bigger in the tank and isn't as controllable. However it is a lot less finicky and a lot more reliable. If I were basing my decision purely on reliability Tunze would always get my vote.

A local store might be that friendly – one of many reasons we need to be patronizing our local stores when possible.

Plus, even if an online place were that friendly (or maybe they could be fooled that you didn't try it out) you'd still be on the hook for return shipping. Not the end of the world, but a little galling when considered along with your wait for two-way shipping to get a different model. (A LFS would be the way to go.)

I have one mp10 in my Nuvo 40 and love the flow I bought 2 at the time but I think one has plenty of flow so now I have a back up mp10 have not even opens the box yet
